The San Diego Wave will play the third match of their inaugural NWSL season against the Chicago Red Stars at 2:00 p.m Sunday, May 13. To commence the season, San Diego has won their first two games. SD defeated the Houston Dash on May 1 and 4-0 against Gotham FC on May 7.
The match will see former Red Star players Katie Johnson and Makenzy Doniak facing their former team for the first time since being traded to San Diego.Â
The Wave currently sit first in the NWSL standings as the only team to win their first two games. The Red Stars are currently in fourth after a 2-1 win over Racing Louisville in their only game of the season far.
Of the five goals San Diego has scored this season, Morgan scored four of them and currently leads the league. Jodie Taylor has the other goal, which came in the win over Houston.

Coming into Torero Stadium and grabbing points won’t be easy for the Red Stars. Of the 11 goals San Diego has conceded all season, only four were conceded at home. San Diego has set up a defensive fortress when playing under the Torero Stadium lights and will hope to keep that dominant home record for the rest of the season.
The Red Stars will also continue to miss their star player Mallory Pugh with a calf injury, giving the opportunity for some rookies to make a name for themselves.

It’s going to be a defensive battle between two very organized sides, so don’t expect another 4-goal show like the Wave put on in their last outing.
Overall it should be a great game between San Diego Wave and arguably the best team they’ve faced so far this regular season, the Chicago Red Stars.
After Sunday’s match, the Wave will play Racing Louisville on Wednesday, May 18, at 4:30 p.m. That match will be on the road for their second away match of the season.Â
