Padres Winter League Roundup: October 20 (Austin Allen Crushing)
There were several San Diego Padres players in action throughout the globe on Saturday.
The Peoria Javelinas won 6-5 against Salt River and are now 7-3 on the year in the AFL.
Here is a recap of the day’s action:
Arizona Fall League
Austin Allen– (1-4) 2B, 2 RBI, Run, BB
The catcher was batting third for the Javelinas and recorded his 4th RBI of the year. Allen drove a double deep into the Arizona sky today to record two runs batted in. The catcher is batting .278 on the year and will surely be protected by the Padres in December’s Rule 5 draft.
Hudson Potts– (1-4) 2B, Run, BB, K
The young third baseman started at third and was hitting in the cleanup position for the Javelinas after having yesterday off. He is hitting .258 on the year in Arizona and has recently received some national recognition for his development.
Buddy Reed– (0-3) BB, SB, Run, K
The athletic outfielder played right field on Saturday and went 0-for-3. He was batting in the 8th spot and is now hitting .320 on the season.
Travis Radke– 1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, K (21 pitches- 12 strikes)
Left-handed reliever Travis Radke got knocked around a bit on Saturday. He allowed two runs in his only inning of relief and his ERA is at 5.06 on the year in the desert.
Dauris Valdez– (Save) 1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, K (20 pitches-13 strikes)
Despite giving up two earned runs, Dauris Valdez recorded the save for the Javelinas on Saturday. The tall, right-handed pitcher owns a 4.50 ERA for Peoria.

Mexican winter league
Adrian Martinez- 3.2 IP, H, 3 K (40 pitches/25 strikes)
21-year-old, right-handed Adrian Martinez made his debut on Saturday and threw 3.2 shutout innings for the Aguilas de Mexicali. He got into 21 games last year between Tri-City and Fort Wayne, recording a 6.90 ERA in 74 innings.
Gerardo Reyes- 0.2 IP, K
Reyes has yet to be scored upon in Mexico pitching for the Yaquis de Obregon. The right-handed reliever is making a case to be added to the 40-man roster.
Dominican winter league
Diego Goris- (0-4) K
The third baseman is hitting .231 so far in the D.R. for the Aguilas Cibaenas.
Franmil Reyes has reported to the Leones de Escogido.

Venezuelan winter league
Gabriel Arias– (2-4) SB, K, Error
Arias is off to a .250 start in Venezuela for the Tiburones de La Guaira. He committed an error in the game, but did go 2-for-4 with a stolen base.

Austin Allen is surely forcing the hand of the front office in giving him a shot possibly in the near future or making himself a very valuable trade chip. There is just not a lot of LHB power hitters that play behind the plate. If he can develop into an average defensive catcher, that is an everyday starter behind home plate with that bat.
