Padres Winter League Roundup: October 17 (Potts Homers)
There was plenty of action around the globe on Wednesday for Padres minor leaguers.
Here is a recap of the day’s action:
Arizona Fall League
The Peoria Javelinas are 5-2 now on the season as they knocked off the Surprise Saguaros by the score of 7-2 on Wednesday.
Hudson Potts– (2-5) HR, 3 RBI, Run, SB, K
The right-handed-hitting third baseman hit his first homer of the fall and drove in three runs on the day. Potts is hitting .261 on the year and has seven RBI on the season so far in a handful of games.
Buddy Reed– (3-5) 2 Runs, 2 SB
Reed was batting ninth and playing left field for the Javelinas on Wednesday and went 3-for-5 with a couple of runs scored and two stolen bases. He is hitting .389 this year and has looked really good on defense.
Miguel Diaz– (Win 1-0) 4 IP, 2H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K (47 pitches/34 strikes)
Starting the game for Peoria was Diaz, who earned the victory after throwing four solid innings. His ERA is 2.57 so far this fall with the Javelinas.
Dauris Valdez– 1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB (28 pitches/15 strikes)
The big Dominican pitcher completed the game for Peoria, getting the last three outs. He has yet to be scored upon this fall in Arizona, featuring a high 90’s fastball and a decent slider.
Mexican League
No Padres players in action
Venezuelan League
Gabriel Arias– (0-1)
Arias was used as a pinch hitter late in the game and played a few innings of defense for the Tiburones de La Guaira on Wednesday. The slick-fielding defender is hitting .231 so far on the year in Venezuela.
Edward Olivares– (2-3) 2 Runs, 2 BB, RBI, SB
Olivares is very comfortable in Venezuela and performing well in the winter. He is eligible for the Rule 5 draft in December, so the Padres are likely keeping a close eye on his development.
