Padres Winter League Report: October 29 (Peoria Wins as Reed Continues to Hit)
Peoria won 7-6 over the Surprise Saguaros on Monday and are now 11-6 on the season, and in first place.
Both Buddy Reed and Miguel Diaz will represent the Padres organization in the AFL Fall Stars Game, which will be this Saturday and air on MLB Network. This is a great honor for both players. Diaz has plenty of major league time under his belt and it is nice to see him implement that into a league full of players less experienced than him. Reed has shown great growth with the bat and is far more than just a defense-first outfielder.
It was a very quiet day around the globe as all three of the other winter leagues were off on Monday.
Here is a brief recap of the day:
Arizona Fall League
Buddy Reed– (2-4) 3B, 2B, Run, 2 RBI, K
Reed is hitting .366 on the year, but has been batting in the bottom of the lineup on most days. He has also been starting the majority of the time in the corners, and not in center field. The speedy switch-hitter has a developing swing from both sides of the plate.
Hudson Potts– (1-3) 2 Runs, 2 BB, RBI
Happy Birthday to Hudson, as the third baseman turned 20 on Sunday. He is hitting .229 so far on the year and has improved his defense as of late. Potts started the year with a few errors in his first handful of games in the desert. The right-handed hitter has tremendous power and a great work ethic. Expect big things from him in 2019.
Miguel Diaz– 3 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K (61 pitches/40 strikes)
Diaz was roughed up a bit on Monday, but still maintains a 3.86 ERA in Arizona. He will represent the team on Saturday, featuring his dipping and darting fastball. The velocity and movement he gets on his heater are special. Hopefully, he can harness it in 2019 and be a factor for the Padres next season.
