Padres Winter League Report: October 15 (Naylor with two hits in D.R./Ashbeck perfect in AFL)
Only four men in action for the San Diego Padres on Tuesday.
Here is a look at the winter league play around the globe.
Arizona Fall League
Owen Miller– (0-3) 2 K’s
Owen Miller is off to a .176 start in the desert. He has struggled so far, but still has time to get his average to where it needs to be. The infielder batted seventh on Tuesday and played second base for the Javelinas. Miller played the whole 2019 season in Amarillo, where he put up a .785 OPS in 130 games.
Elliot Ashbeck– 2 IP (17 pitches- 13 strikes)
This right-handed pitcher continues to be impressive and could be a factor as soon as next year for the Padres. He owns a 1.74 ERA so far this season and was the Padres lone representative in the AFL All-Star Game. The 25-year-old Ashbeck made it to Amarillo this past season but played most of the year in Lake Elsinore.
Dominican Winter League
Ivan Castillo– (1-5) Run, K
The Padres versatile infielder played shortstop on Tuesday in the Dominican Republic. He has been batting leadoff for Escogido and is off to a .278 start to the season. Castillo will require a 40-man spot, and it will be interesting to see what the Padres do with him.
Josh Naylor– (2-4) Run, RBI, SB
Naylor continues to swing a hot bat in the Dominican. He is currently batting .500 on the season after a 2-for-4 game on Tuesday. He has been playing left field and batting cleanup for the Leones. Naylor also stole a base on Tuesday and has two on the season.
