Padres Winter League Report: October 14
Not much action in the winter leagues on Sunday for the Padres, but here is your recap of the day’s events.
Arizona Fall League
There were no games scheduled this weekend, but the Peoria Javelinas do play at 12:35 tomorrow at home against the Salt River Rafters.
Venezuelan Winter League
Gabriel Arias– (1-5) 2 K
The slick-fielding shortstop started for the Tiburones de La Guaira on Sunday and recorded a hit in five at-bats. Arias is looking to build off a decent year in Fort Wayne where he put up a .654 OPS for the TinCaps. He is hitting .222 so far on the year in Venezuela.
Edward Olivares– (2-4)
Olivares hit leadoff once again for his Venezuelan team on Sunday (Tigres de Aragua). He has put on weight in the last few months and is reportedly the heaviest he has ever been in his professional career. The Padres would like Olivares to continue to add more size and strength.
Reinaldo Ilarraza– (2-3) K
The teenage infielder is also playing for the Tigres de Aragua in Venezuela. Ilarraza should start the year in Fort Wayne of Lake Elsinore and has some very nice potential.
Mexican Winter League
No Padres minor leaguers in action on Sunday.
Dominican Winter League
No Padres minor leaguers in action on Sunday.
