Padres Winter League Report: November 25 (Gettys Homer 3 Times in Australia)
There were plenty of Padres’ minor and major leaguers playing baseball around the globe on this Thanksgiving weekend.
Here is a recap of the day’s events.
Dominican winter league
Diego Goris– (2-3) 2B, 2 RBI, Run
The minor league veteran is on a bit of a hot streak as he is up to .313 on the year in the Dominican Republic.
Franchy Cordero– (1-4) SB
Franchy is hitting .286 in the D.R. and batting in the middle of the Leones lineup on a daily basis.
Fernando Tatis Jr.– (1-3) 2B, K, CS
The super prospect went 1-for-3 on Sunday with a double. He is at .290 for the year and has been batting at the leadoff position for the Estrellas.
Francisco Mejia– (1-4)
Mejia got a day off from behind the plate, as he was the DH on Sunday for the Estrellas. He is hitting .257 in the D.R. so far this season.
Venezuelan winter league
Luis Torrens– (0-0)
Torrens entered the game late at first base in Venezuela. He is hitting .350 on the year for the Navegantes del Magallanes.
Puerto Rican winter league
Colby Blueberg– 1 IP
Blueberg threw a scoreless inning on Sunday and earned his first hold of the year in Puerto Rico. He has a 3.38 ERA so far.
Aldemar Burgos– (3-4) 2B, 2 RBI
Burgos is hitting .357 after he doubled in his only at-bat in the first game of a doubleheader. He started in center in the last game and went 2-for 3 with an RBI.
Mexican winter league
Tirso Ornelas– (0-2)
The young outfielder is off to a slow start in Mexico as he has yet to record a hit. He is not playing very often. The experience of being in Mexico playing against older competition is the true reason he is in Mexico right now.
Christian Villanueva– (0-2) BB, K
Villanueva is down to .231 on the season in Mexico.
Australian winter league
Jarryd Dale– (0-3) BB, K
Australian teenager and Padres’ prospect Jarryd Dale went hitless on Sunday and is down to .158 in the ABL.
Michael Gettys– (3-4) 3 HR, 5 RBI, 3 Runs, K
Gettys is up to .357Â on the year after blasting three homers on Sunday. He now has four on the year in the ABL, playing for the Bite.
Justin Lopez– (1-4) 2B, Run, 2 K
Lopez was at shortstop on Sunday and batting second. He recorded a hit in four at-bats and is at .269 for the season.
