Padres Winter League Report: December 2 (Tatis Developing in D.R.)
A little bit of a slow day on Sunday around the globe as far as San Diego Padres players participating in winter league play.
A few Padres players were in action though.
Here is a recap of the day’s events:
Dominican winter league
Franchy Cordero– (1-5) 2B, Run, 2 K
Franchy is hitting .308 in the D.R. currently. He has shown no issues with his elbow and will be at full strength come spring. Expect Cordero to have a productive year in 2019, if he can stay injury-free.
Fernando Tatis Jr.– (1-4) 2B, Run
Tatis was batting third for the Estrellas once again and went 1-for-4 with a double. He is hitting .269 on the year in the Dominican Republic and really starting to show signs of growing as a player.
Francisco Mejia– (1-4)
Mejia was behind the plate and went 1-for-4 on Sunday. The switch-hitting catcher is batting .255 on the year for the same Estrellas team that Tatis plays on.
Venezuelan winter league
Luis Torrens– (2-5) 2B, Run, 2 RBI
Torrens entered the first game of a double-header as a pinch runner and stayed in to catch an inning. In the second game, he went 2-for-5 and his average is at .366 in Venezuela.
Edward Olivares– (0-0)
Edward Olivares is hitting .340 on the year but has only been used as a pinch-runner for the last week to 10 days. He must have an arm injury of some sort. Nothing has yet been reported on his issue.
Mexican winter league
No Padres’ players in action
Puerto Rican winter league
Aldemar Burgos– (1-6)
The 21-year-old is up to .333 on the year after a doubleheader in which he went 1-for-6. He has his OPS at .896 through 14 games on the island.
Australian Baseball League
Michael Gettys– (1-3) 2B, BB, 2 K
Gettys continues to hit well in Australia. He is at .341 for the season in the ABL displaying plenty of power.
Jarryd Dale– (0-2)
Dale is down to .103 on the season. He is in the midst of a 0-for-21 slump over the last nine games.
