Padres Winter League Report: December 19 (Franchy goes 3-for-4 with homer in the D.R.)
The San Diego Padres winter league report for December 19.
There were several Padres’ players in action throughout the globe on Wednesday.
Here is a recap of the day’s events.
Dominican Winter League
Franchy Cordero– (3-4) HR, 2B, 4 RBI’s, 2 Runs, BB
The left-handed hitter is now hitting .364 on the season in the D.R. The Padres are certainly pleased with the fact Cordero has been able to sustain his health this winter. He was playing center field and batting cleanup for the Leones on Wednesday in a 3-for-4 game at the plate. He homered and drove in four runs in the game.
Ivan Castillo– (1-5) Run
Castillo is hitting .251 now after a 1-for-5 game at the plate. He played shortstop and was batting second for the Leones on Wednesday. Castillo has an outside chance at playing time for the Padres in 2020, but he will need to have a productive year in El Paso first.
Mexican Winter League
Esteban Quiroz– (0-3) Run, BB, 2 K
The infielder is batting .250 on the season for Los Mochis. He played second base and went 0-for-3 on Wednesday with a run, walk, and two strikeouts. Quiroz will likely be invited to Major League camp this spring with an outside chance at making the Padres’ roster.
Puerto Rican Winter League
No players in action
Australian Baseball League
Taylor Kohlwey– (1-4) RBI, Run
Kohlwey has been swinging a hot bat for Canberra in the ABL. The left-handed hitter has played all over the outfield for the Calvary.
Jonny Homza– (0-3) 3 K
The catcher is hitting .250 on the year for the Auckland Tuatara. The right-handed hitter has also played some third base this season in the ABL.
Jarryd Dale– (0-2) BB, K
Batting last and playing shortstop on most nights, Jarryd Dale is still piling up at-bats in the ABL. He is struggling with his swing (.098 batting average), but there is still hope for the teenager from Australia.
