Padres Winter League Report: December 17 (Quiroz homers in Mexico)
The San Diego Padres have several men participating in action throughout the globe on Tuesday.
Here is a recap of the day’s events.
Dominican Winter League
Franchy Cordero– (0-4) RBI, 2 K
The left-handed hitter is batting .310 on the season in the D.R. He was batting third and playing left field in the game on Tuesday where he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. Cordero needs to stay healthy to have any chance of being considered a useful major league outfielder.
Ivan Castillo– (1-5) 2 K
The reigning Texas League batting champion is hitting .253 so far for the Leones. He was batting leadoff in the game on Tuesday and played shortstop. Castillo has played all over the diamond this winter showing great versatility.
Webster Rivas– (1-4) 2 RBI, Error
The defensive specialist is hitting .204 so far for the Gigantes. He was batting last for the team on Tuesday and went 1-for-4 with two RBI’s.
Manuel Margot– (1-3) RBI, K
The Padres’ outfielder is hitting .200 so far on the year in the D.R. He was batting third and playing centerfield in the game for the Toros de Este. Margot is playing on most days as he is keeping his baseball skills sharp in the winter.
Mexican Winter League
Esteban Quiroz– (2-3) HR, 2 RBI, Run, BB
The little infielder is hitting .265 on the year in Mexico. He slugged his 4th homer on Tuesday. Quiroz was batting cleanup and playing second base for Los Mochis. He is putting up productive numbers and could be someone worth keeping an eye on in 2020.
