Padres Winter League Report: December 10 (Cordero stays hot with two more hits in D.R.)
The San Diego Padres winter league report for December 10.
There were a few players in action for the San Diego Padres on Tuesday throughout the globe.
Here is a recap of the day’s events.
Dominican Winter League
Ivan Castillo– (0-4) 3 K, Run
The reigning Texas-League batting champion is hitting .260 on the season for the Leones de Escogido. He played second base on Tuesday and went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. Castillo will start the year in El Paso and could get a look eventually with the big league club.
Franchy Cordero– (2-3) 2B, 2 RBI, BB, K
Cordero continues to swing as he went 2-for-3 with a double on Tuesday. He is hitting .471 (8-for-17) on the season for the Leones. He played centerfield in the game and looks to stay in playing shape in what could be a massive year for the left-handed hitter. He needs to remain healthy though.
Webster Rivas– (0-3) K
The catcher is hitting .175 (7-for-40) on the year for the Gigantes. The right-handed hitter is a plus defender and will probably be at the Triple-A level with Luis Torrens, providing the Padres with catching depth.
Manuel Margot– (1-3) 3B, Run, 2 RBI, BB, SB
The Padres are eying their centerfielder as he plays in the D.R. He is off to a .190 start for the Toros de Este. He played center field and batted leadoff for the team on Tuesday, going 1-for-3 with a triple. Margot has been the subject of some trade rumors but is still very much entrenched in the Padres’ outfield situation.
Mexican Winter League
Esteban Quiroz– (0-3)Â BB, K
The scrappy infielder played second base for Los Mochis and went 0-for-3 in the game. He is hitting .214 on the season in Mexico and could be a useful player for the Padres in 2020.
Puerto Rican Winter League
No players in action
Australian Baseball League
