Padres Winter League Recap: November 15 (Gettys debuts in P.R./Reyes saves a game in Mexico)
The winter league season is heating up.
The play has already started on the island of Puerto Rico, and play will begin soon in Australia. The Padres have several players who will be playing in the ABL this season.
Here is a recap of Friday’s action around the globe as it pertains to the San Diego Padres.
Puerto Rican Winter League
Michael Gettys– (1-4) Run, SB, 3 K
Batting leadoff and playing right field for the Indios de Mayaguez, Gettys went 1-for-4 with three strikeouts in his debut. The slugging outfielder has plenty of tools, but his inability to make consistent contact is still an issue. He will look to sharpen his skills in Puerto Rico this winter.
Dominican Winter League
Webster Rivas– (0-4) RBI, K
The defensive-minded catcher is hitting .222 so far for the Gigantes de Cibao. Rivas has a significant presence behind the plate and worked well with many of the young pitchers that are currently in San Diego.
Ivan Castillo– (0-4) K
The Texas League batting champion is having a difficult time so far in the D.R. He is hitting .240 on the year after an 0-for-4 game on Friday. The infielder re-signed with the Padres in a little bit of a surprising move this winter. Castillo is not a young prospect but shows excellent bat control and an ability to play multiple positions.
Josh Naylor– (0-3) BB, K
Naylor is off to a .250 start in the Dominican Republic. He has been playing the outfield on most nights for the Leones. The slugging left-handed hitter has had some memorable moments so far this winter as he slugged a walk-off homer earlier in the season.
Mexican Winter League
Gerardo Reyes– (Save) 1 IP, H, K
Gerardo Reyes is showing great velocity in Mexico hitting triple digits on the radar gun for Obregon. He has a 0.00 ERA and two saves in three games so far this season. Reyes has the opportunity to be a very useful player for the Padres this coming season.

Man if Reyes could find some consistency he would be perfect for bullpen. Him, Castillo, Munoz, Yates? But I have feeling he gonna get moved this offseason. Had several chances and not sure they gonna give him many more. Love the arm. Hope he can stick next yr.
