A little bit of a surprise as Colin Rea and Robbie Erlin were expected to man the last two spots in the rotation. Erlin was roughed up last night in El Paso and that could have been a deciding factor.
Andy Green is surely not one to hesitate when making a decision. That is a great quality for the rookie manager. Sometimes managers and in particular new managers can over think things. The game of baseball is played on instincts and sometimes you need to trust your gut.
It was not revealed whom will earn the last spot in the Padres rotation. You would have to think that Colin Rea is the front runner while Robbie Erlin will be sent back to Triple-A. Perhaps even a trade can be finished before rosters have to be set on Sunday.
As for Pomeranz it is nice that the team is showing a lot of confidence in him. The tall left hander was acquired from the Oakland Athletics with Jabari Blash for Yonder Alonso. He has a great arm and will surely be a key addition for the Padres this 2016 season.
The rosters are taking shape. It is an exciting time of the year. Players are working their tails off in an attempt to impress their coaches. Anything can happen as every team starts out with the same record.
