Padres News: Five Reasons to Keep Tyson Ross
Consistency
In learning to repeat his motion, Ross has been relatively consistent in his numbers since joining the Padres. In 2013 after being acquired, he was initially used out of the bullpen, but he was given an opportunity to start 16 games. He went 3-5 with a 3.06 ERA and a 1.096 WHIP. In his second start for the Padres, Ross threw eight shutout innings against the Diamondbacks, allowing only three hits and striking out seven.
In the last two complete seasons, Ross has made 31 and 33 startsĀ with justĀ under 200 innings in eachĀ season. Every fifth day Ross wants the ball and is taking it for the Padres. To have consistency at his age is a promising glimpse into what he is capable of as a major league pitcher.
To have a track record of success is not an easy thing to develop at the bigĀ league level. The Oakland A’s are surely kicking themselves for giving up on this young talent. With the stuff Ross has, he should easily stay very consistent and it wouldn’t be surprisingĀ to see him progress as a player.
