The San Diego Padres are at a crossroads with their tall right-handed pitcher. Tyson Ross has taken huge strides ever since being acquired by the Padres with A.J. Kirby-Jones from the Oakland Athletics in November 2012 for Andy Parrino and Andrew Werner. The Padres clearly got the best of that deal.

Ross has gone 26-34 in 99 games, recording a 3.07 ERA and a 1.233 WHIP in his brief three-year Padres career. The native Californian was drafted in the second round out of the University of California Berkley in the 2008 draft. The A’s hid high hopes for him but seemed indecisive on whether Ross would be a starter or reliever.

He has flourished under the tutelage of Darren Balsley, and there have been recent reports linking Ross to just about every major league team. If the Padres decide to move Ross they will clearly have no shortage of interested teams. The question is: What would be enough to pry Ross off their hands? This article is focusing on the five reasons why Tyson Ross should be retained and extended rather than being traded or allowed to explore free agency.
