Padres ink Jurickson Profar to one-year deal
Jurickson Profar and the San Diego Padres agreed to terms on a one-year deal.
The San Diego Padres needed outfield help as spring training started this week.
Pitchers and catchers are in camp working out, and the position players are not far behind.
Jurickson Profar was signed by the club this week to a one-year, one-million-dollar deal. The veteran outfielder is now the odds-on favorite to win the starting left-field job. With Jose Azocar and Fernando Tatis Jr. the only outfielders on the 40-man roster, a signing seemed inevitable.
In 2023, the team acquired Profar late in the season, and the team played better. The thought process is that Profar does well in building chemistry and is regarded as one of the best teammates in the locker room. He is very good friends with Fernando Tatis Jr and works out with him in the winter.
Profar played with the Padres from 2020-2022 before signing with the Rockies before the 2023 season.
Jurickson Profar’s deal is pending a physical and should be announced by the team soon. Profar can play multiple positions, and there is a chance you will see him at first base at some point during the 2024 season. His versatility is very nice, as he can literally play seven positions on the diamond.
The Padres add to the roster while on a budget. Expect more signings in the coming weeks as the Padres find talent looking for work.
One would expect the team to sign a starting pitcher or two and another outfielder or two to bring into camp and compete.
The roster is slowly taking shape as we head into the 2024 season.
