Recently, friend of the show, Dustin Palmateer, received an incredible offer.

He is now teamed with Dennis Lin to provide excellent coverage of the San Diego Padres for the 2018 season. Both Patrick and I were excited to speak to him and congratulate him on his new endeavor. Dustin tells us a little bit about the Athletic and what his new adventure is like.

The Padres Opening Day’ 25-man roster was just announced, so the three of us discuss it to begin our Padres talk.

The first thing we cover is the fact Andy Green decided to keep three catchers on the roster. We all weigh-in on the thought and we all have a different take on what the Padres are trying to do with this idea. Lopez and Ellis bring different things to the team, that is for sure.

We next talk about the pitching staff, and in particular,Ā Jordan Lyles, who made the team. We scratch our heads a bit about Lyles, while I play the devil’s advocate on to why he is on the major league roster. There are certainly other options for the Friars, so the fact the team kept him is a bit strange.

Matt Szczur and his place in the roster is also discussed for awhile, and we also bringĀ Ā Travis Jankowski and Franchy Cordero into this conversation.

A hot topic of debate is the Hunter Renfroe or Jose Pirela in left (or right field) question. We ask Dustin his thoughts and he tells us why he would like to see a little more from Hunter Renfroe to start the year. Interesting stuff here from Dustin.

Dinelson Lamet‘s elbow injury is something we hit on as Dustin goes into some thoughts on MRIs and why the Padres have failed to test him yet. Don’t condemn the team just yet.

There were many more topics on this show with Dustin as we hit him with some rapid fire questions and such.

The excitement is in the air and all three of us are pretty jacked. Opening Day is here and the Padres season is about to begin. Go Padres!

Please take the time to support Dustin and his newsletter. Also consider a subscription to the Athletic. It is well worth the money.

Enjoy the podcast and let us know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. Thank you.
