Padres EVT Podcast: Episode 28 with A.J. Cassavell
For the return of the EVT Podcast, we welcome back A.J. Cassavell of MLB.com, to the show.
Both, Patrick and I wish to apologize for our extended hiatus from the show.
Life happens, and with that, certain things had to be put on the back-burner in our busy lives. We both did not want to bring you a product that was half-assed, so we decided no show was better than a podcast that was suffering from lack of attention.
We should be go to go for the near future, and are trying to nail down a weekly podcast with a set day and time. Look for the details to be released soon.
The 2017 San Diego Padres season will be one of many bright spots, but the overall result might not be pleasant.
The current starting staff is a patchwork of veteran pitchers. It will take a small miracle for this group to eat enough innings not to do damage to the bullpen. The relief core is a positive for the Padres, but they cannot be constantly used in every ball game if they are to have success throughout the season.
As we speak to A.J. for the show, we discuss many things about the club.
We obviously had to discuss the Rule-5 picks with A.J., and he tells us there is an excellent chance the team keeps all three men on their roster to begin the season. That seems to be the likely scenario at the moment, as each youngster has shown enough to warrant being kept by the team.
The starting staff is discussed as there are some final spots that need to be nailed down. Luis Perdomo is a hot topic as we discuss his service time and the fact the Padres have still not named him to the opening day roster.
There is a different feeling in camp this season and I asked A.J. about the feeling in the locker room. He had some very interesting things to say about the Padres club house and how it has changed in just 12 months.
The show was a success and we are extremely happy to be back. Look for another show very soon as we attempt to keep you up to date on everything Padres related. Go Padres!

Thrilled about the return of the podcast! I listen to a lot of Padres podcasts, and yours is easily one of the most informative. I hope you do another interview with the MadFriars guys — always enjoy discussions about the farm system.
Thank you Roddy.
I’m sure we will have John on at some point this baseball season.
Appreciate the feedback.
