Padres Down on the Farm: May 27 (Xavier Edwards Still Hot in FW/El Paso Sweeps Doubleheader)

Amarillo and Lake Elsinore were both off on Monday. El Paso had a doubleheader in Fresno.

San Diego Padres affiliates went 3-0 on the day.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (33-18)

Game 1 (Won 3-2)

El Paso took the first game of the doubleheader in Fresno by the score of 3-2. The Chihuahuas have played well all season long and got a great start by lefty Dillion Overton on Monday. He went six innings and struck out five without allowing a run to score. He did not factor in the decision as the game was scoreless through six innings. El Paso took the lead in the top of the first but promptly allowed Fresno to tie the game at one in the bottom half of the inning. Gerardo Reyes earned the save in the end, recording a strikeout in the ninth on 17 pitches. Luis Urias has his OPS up to 1.167 on the year in the PCL.

Game 2 (Won 6-1)

The Chihuahuas held a 3-1 lead late in the game as Dietrich Enns did a solid job starting the game. He went 5.1 innings and allowed one earned run on five hits. Jason Vosler hit his ninth homer of the year in the seventh to add on to the lead. Esteban Quiroz and Luis Urias went 5-for-5 combined in the middle infield. Matt Batten also homered in the game and has played well this year recording a .835 OPS. El Paso knocked out nine hits in the seven-inning game and walked seven times. Trevor Megill earned the save by recording the last five outs in the game without allowing a base runner.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (23-25) Won 8-3

The TinCaps have been playing better of late and won 8-3 on Memorial Day. Padres middle infielder Xavier Edwards is tearing it up in Fort Wayne. He leads the Midwest League in average (.378) and OBP (.435) presently and is third in stolen base with 14. He will probably spend some time in Lake Elsinore this season. Efrain Contreras made a start in Great Lakes against the Loons and went 5.2 innings. He struck out seven batters on the day and lowered his ERA to 3.09 on the year. Austin Smith threw a scoreless 1.1 innings and now owns a 2.92 ERA in the Midwest League. Michael Curry went 2-for- on the day after replacing Grant Little in left field.
