Padres Down on the Farm: June 21 (Chihuahuas lose big to Sugar Land)
San Diego Padres’ affiliates went 0-1 on Monday.
Here is a recap of the day’s events.
El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 10-1 to Sugar Land) (17-23 on the season)
Jesse Scholtens – 3.0 IP, 11 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO
Ivan Castillo – (2-4) SO
Ben Ruta – (1-2) 2 BB, SO
Luis Campusano (1-4) SO
The lone game in the Padres’ farm system saw the Chihuahuas on the wrong side of a blowout. They only tallied five hits all game, all singles. The one bright spot of their offense was their discipline. They finished the game with seven walks and only six strikeouts. In fact, their only run of the game came on four straight walks in the 8th inning.
Earning only one run typically won’t win games. Giving up ten runs also typically does not work. Jesse Scholtens got hit right away. After three straight hits, he was down 1-0. He would end the inning with four earned runs. Evan Miller didn’t fare much better when he came in to relieve him. He gave up four runs in his three innings of work, including a home run. The series ends tomorrow, and that is a welcome moment for El Paso. In this series, the Skeeters have three double-digit run performances.
