Padres Down on the Farm: June 2 (Olivares with four hits in Amarillo/Bolanos wins in Lake Elsinore)

San Diego Padres affiliates were 3-1 on Sunday.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (36-21) Won 5-3

The Chihuahuas keep on winning as the team took Sunday’s series finale with the Tacoma Rainiers. Dietrich Enns was on the mound for El Paso and threw the ball well recording 15 outs and only allowing one earned run. A.J. Kennedy and Peter Van Gansen were the hitting stars for the Chihuahuas, as both homered in the win. Luis Urias recorded a hit but struck out twice in the game. He has now struck out 35 times in 154 minor league at-bats. The Chihuahuas are off on Monday.

Amarillo Sod Poodles (28-26) Won 4-2

The Soddies are now two games over .500 after a win against Midland on Sunday. The team returns to Amarillo on Monday and will have Fernando Tatis Jr. in the lineup. The Padres shortstop is rehabbing his hamstring injury and could be with Amarillo for the week. On Sunday, Amarillo got a great performance from their bullpen. Miguel Diaz made a start but only went two innings. Kaz Makita threw two innings of work, allowing one earned run. Jean Cosme made his Texas League debut and threw two innings of relief for Amarillo. He was just recalled from Lake Elsinore. Travis Radke threw the last three innings and didn’t even allow a base runner. He struck out five, and his ERA is down to 1.74 on the year. Edward Olivares went 4-for-4 in the game and has his OPS up to .808 on the year. Ivan Castillo keeps hitting as he went 2-for-5 with a run scored. He is hitting .343 on the year with a .854 OPS.

Lake Elsinore Storm (28-27) Won 9-2

The Storm has been playing well of late winning nine of their last 15 games. On Sunday, Cuban right-hander Ronald Bolanos pitched well striking out eight batters in five innings pitched. He has a 2.85 ERA and could join MacKenzie Gore in Amarillo very soon. Jordan Guerrero, Steven Wilson, and Elliot Ashbeck finished off the game for Lake Elsinore. The trio did not allow a run in the last four innings. The Storm bullpen is turning into a real weapon. Jack Suwinski doubled twice in the win, and Jeisson Rosario recorded three hits. Both men have been struggling of late. Lake Elsinore recorded 13 hits on the day as every starter recorded a hit except for Esteury Ruiz and Eguy Rosario. Lake Elsinore is off on Monday.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (26-29) Lost 7-4

The TinCaps dropped the last game of their series with Great Lakes by the score of 7-4. Efrain Contreras was touched up for three earned runs in 4.2 innings of work. Henry Henry relieved him and gave up three earned runs in 3.1 innings of work. Fort Wayne got off to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but they did little else offensively. Xavier Edwards had a rare night off at the plate going 0-for-5 while batting leadoff for the team. The TinCaps did steal four bases in the game. Lee Solomon, Dwanya Wiliams-Sutton, Kelvin Melean, and Jawaun Harris all swiped a base on Sunday in the loss. The TinCaps are off on Monday.
