Padres Down on the Farm: July 31 (Patino dominates for Storm/Nix & Thompson rehab in Arizona)
San Diego Padres affiliates went 3-3 on Wednesday.

El Paso Chihuahuas (66-45) Lost 7-6
Five early runs were the difference in a 7-6 loss to the Nashville Sounds. Dietrich Enns gave up five in the second inning, and that was essentially the game for the Chihuahuas. Gerardo Reyes pitched a scoreless inning in the loss as the right-handed pitcher now has a 3.00 ERA in the PCL. Seth Mejias-Brean hit his 9th homer of the season in a 2-for-3 game. Esteban Quiroz went 3-for-4 and now has a .910 OPS so far in Texas.

Lake Elsinore Storm (56-52) Won 5-0
Luis Patino put on a show in the Bay Area, as he took a shutout into the 9th in a 5-0 win. The pitch count got him as he was removed in the 9th after one out. The Colombian pitcher was at 94 pitches in the game. He struck out nine in the game and flashed a 96-98 mph fastball. Javy Guerra got the last two outs on strikeouts to seal the victory for the Storm. Lake Elsinore recorded 13 hits in the win, led by Xavier Edwards who went 4-for-5 with two runs scored. He is now hitting .353 in Lake Elsinore. Aldemar Burgos homered in the win, and Luis Campusano went 3-for-5. The catcher has a .902 OPS in the Cal League.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (46-60) Lost 8-2
The TinCaps dropped an 8-2 game in Great Lakes on Wednesday. Sam Keating was knocked around for six earned runs in 3 2/3 innings pitched. He has a 7.63 ERA now and is really having a hard time in the Midwest League. Fort Wayne only managed six hits in the game as the offense has been slow as of late. Juan Fernandez went 2-for-4 in the loss as the backup catcher made a start behind the plate for Blake Hunt.

The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes exploded on the Dust Devils for a 10-0 victory. The Volcanoes have a 32-15 record and are running away with the league. Angel Acevedo allowed five earned runs in four innings pitched. Dan Dallas pitched well, throwing a scoreless inning. He has a 1.19 ERA so far this season. Tri-City only managed two hits in the game as three different Volcanoes’ pitchers limited them.

AZL Padres 1 (20-14) Won 4-3
The AZL Padres 1 team continues to play well as they won 4-3 on Wednesday. Jacob Nix made another rehab start, and this time he threw 43 pitches while going three complete innings. No arm issues reported for the hurler who will be a welcomed addition to the Padres rotation in the next couple of months. Nix reported to EVT after the game “Feel great. Can’t wait to get back with the boys.” 18-year-old Miguel Rondon earned the win, pitching three innings of scoreless ball. CJ Abrams went 2-for-4 with his seventh triple of the season. He has a 1.113 OPS and a .407 average in Peoria. 19-year-old outfielder Payton Smith went 2-for-3 in the win.

AZL Padres 2 (23-12) Won 9-3
The AZL Padres 2 team beat the AZL Rangers by a score of 9-3 on Wednesday. Mason Thompson started the game for the Padres, and he went three complete innings, without allowing a run. This is really good news for the Padres. Hopefully, Thompson can return to Lake Elsinore very soon. 21-year-old Jose Garcia, a left-handed pitcher from Venezuela, relieved Thompson and was turned in a solid performance. He struck out seven in five innings of one-run ball. Cristian Heredia hit his fourth homer of the season and Yeison Santana went 1-for-4 in the win.
