Padres Down on the Farm: July 25 (France homers twice for El Paso/Campusano & Arias homer/Richards wild in second AZL start)

San Diego Padres affiliates went 4-4 on Thursday.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (63-41) Won 15-9

El Paso outslugged the Aviators in a 15-9 win on the road. Ty France hit two homers and drove in four runs. Aderlin Rodriguez homered and drove in four runs as well. Jason Vosler hit for the cycle and drove in five runs in the wild game. The Chihuahuas recorded 19 hits in the game. Left-handed pitcher Dietrich Enns got the win despite allowing ten hits and five runs in five innings pitched. Las Vegas scored two runs in the bottom of the 9th to make things interesting, but El Paso prevailed with Steven Wilson getting the last two outs of the game.

Amarillo Sod Poodles (52-49) Won 3-1

28-year-old Kyle Lloyd had a great start inĀ  Springfield as the Soddies won 3-1. Lloyd went seven shutout innings and struck out four batters. He has a 3.34 ERA for Amarillo so far in 2019. Evan Miller recorded his fourth save of the year and now has a 3.07 ERA in the Texas League. Buddy Reed went 1-for-4 with his 12th homer of the season. He also stole his 13th base of the season in the win.

Lake Elsinore Storm (52-51) Lost 10-5

The Storm lost on the road to Lancaster by the score of 10-5. Lake Elsinore recorded 13 hits in the game, but the pitching staff was knocked around. Seth Blair gave up four earned runs in three innings pitched, while Tom Colletti gave up three runs in three innings pitched. Franklin Van Gurp, acquired from the Giants for Alex Dickerson, gave up three runs in his two innings of relief. Three Storm players homered. Luis Campusano slugged his 11th of the season and has a .914 OPS on the year now. Gabriel Arias went 2-for-4 with his 9th homer of the season. The 19-year-old shortstop has a .395 average in his last ten games. Jack Suwinski also homered in the loss, his 9th of the year.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (4-56) Lost 9-3

Sam Keating was hit hard for seven earned runs in a 9-3 loss to the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Four runs in the second and four in the fifth were too much for Fort Wayne to overcome. The TinCaps only managed five hits in the game, and four of them came from two players. Dwanya Williams-Sutton doubled in two runs, and Jawuan Harris continued his hot streak going 2-for-4. Harris is now hitting .368 over his last 10 games in the Midwest League.

Tri-City Dust Devils (17-24) Lost 14-4

The Dust Devils lost a tough game 14-4 at the hands of Spokane. Seven errors by Tri-City were the issue. Carlos Luis had a rough game at third base as he committed six errors in the loss. The 20-year-old made five fielding errors and one throwing error in the loss. Angel Acevedo was the victim as he gave up nine runs (only three earned) in 1 1/3 innings pitched for Tri-City. Sean Guilbe doubled twice and has a .753 OPS so far this year. Logan Driscoll returned this week after missing time with an injury and went 3-for-5 on Thursday. The catcher/DH has a .679 OPS so far this season.

AZL Padres 1 (19-11) Won 6-5

In 11 innings, the Padres AZL 1 team beat the AZL Athletics Gold by the score of 6-5. Moises Lugo earned the win, pitching the last three innings for the Padres. He allowed one earned run and struck out four in the game. Tijuana’s own Martin Carrasco pitched two scoreless innings and now has a 2.35 ERA on the season. Frank Lopez started the game and went five solid innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits. He has a 3.96 ERA on the season. Yerry Landinez hit his second homer of the year, and Luis Paez went 3-for-3. CJ Abrams went 0-for-4 in the game, dropping his amazing OPS to 1.124 on the year.

AZL Padres 2 (20-10) Won 8-6

Junior Perez doubled home two runs in the eighth inning as the Padres AZL 2 team beat the AZL Athletics Green team by the score of 8-6. Perez also homered in the game and drove in three runs for the Padres. The 18-year-old, right-handed hitting outfielder is having a great year in the AZL, hitting .302 with a .928 OPS. Former USD Torero Ripken Reyes went 0-for-3 in the win, but he did score three runs and steal two bags. Garrett Richards made his second start of the season since returning from Tommy John surgery, and he was wild. The pitcher walked three batters, allowed two hits and only managed two outs in the game before being removed after 20 pitches. Oliber Guzman earned the win after throwing two scoreless innings.

The DSL White Sox pounded the DSL Padres by the score of 10-3 on Thursday. Manuel Avila started the game and allowed four earned runs in 3 2/3 innings pitched. His ERA is at 4.88 on the year after the loss. Alex Ramirez slugged his first homer of the year. The 17-year-old catcher has a .791 OPS so far this season.
