Padres Down on the Farm: July 10 (Sullivan 2B, HR for EP/Watson 9 K’s for SA/Wolf 7 K’s for FW)
The San Diego Padres affiliates went 3-1 on Sunday. The DSL and ACL Padres had the day off.
Here is a recap of the day’s events.
El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 4-3 vs. Sugar Land) (48-36 on the season)
C Brett Sullivan: 2-for-4, 2B, 2-run HR
LF Taylor Kohlwey: 1-for-3, R, RBI, BB, K
SP Pedro Avila: 4.0 IP, H 2 BB, 5 K’s
RP Adrian Morejon: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K’s
El Paso won 4-3 over Sugar Land on Sunday, while the Chihuahuas and Space Cowboys scored all of their runs in the eighth inning after the pitchers dominated the game early. After seven scoreless innings from each team’s staff, the offenses woke up and made it an interesting game late. El Paso took the 4-0 lead thanks, in part, to a two-run home run by Brett Sullivan. The Space Cowboys brought the lead down to just a run by scoring three in the eighth, but El Paso was able to hang on for the one-run win.
San Antonio Missions (Won 10-0 vs. Frisco) (42-37 on the season)
1B Yorman Rodriguez: 3-for-5, 2B, 2 R, RBI
CF Thomas Milone: 1-for-4, 3-run HR, 2 K’s
SP Nolan Watson: 6 IP, H, BB, 9 K’s
RP Jose Quezada: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K’s
The Missions scored runs all of their runs in the first four innings of the game, including four in the first and three in the second in a 10-0 victory over Frisco on Sunday. Tirso Ornelas hit a three-run home run in the first inning, and Thomas Milone followed up with the same in the second inning. While the offense erupted for ten runs in the game, the pitching was just as impressive, as Thomas Milone and the San Antonio bullpen shut out the RoughRiders. Milone struck out nine in just six innings while allowing just one hit.
Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 5-2 to Lake County) (32-49 on the season)
LF Corey Rosier: 1-for-3, BB, SB
2B Olivier Basabe: 0-for-2, 2 BB, K
SP Jackson Wolf: 6.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 7 K’s, 2 BB
RP Nick Thwaits: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K, BB
The TinCaps lost 5-2 on Sunday afternoon, dropping to 32-49 on the season. Fort Wayne faced off against Lake County and led the Captains on two separate occasions, including a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning. Anthony Vilar started off the scoring in the third inning for the TinCaps, while they scored on a walk in the sixth inning. Unfortunately, Fort Wayne was not able to push across any more runs, and Lake Wayne scored three runs in the eighth inning, which was the difference in the game.
Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 8-5 over Visalia) (49-32 on the season)
3B Marcos Castanon: 1-for-3, 2-run HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB, K
SS Kervin Pichardo: 2-for-4, HR, 2B, 2 R, K
SP Duncan Snider: 5.2 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 5 K’s
RP Danny Denz: 1.1 IP, 0 R, H, 4 K’s
The Storm erupted for seven runs in the six-inning to put themselves up 8-0 and ended up holding on for the 8-5 victory over Visalia. Visalia made things interesting and scored four runs in the eighth and a run in the ninth, but it was not enough to overcome the big inning for Lake Elsinore. Elsinore shut down the Rawhide for the first seven innings, while Duncan Snider pitched into the sixth inning and struck out five while allowing just three hits.
