San Diego Padres farm affiliates went 2-2 on Wednesday.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 4-2 vs Sugar Land) (44-66 on the season)
Mason McCoy – 2 for 4, RBI
Kevin Plawecki – 1 for 4, Home Run
Nabil Crismatt – 5 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 7 K (82 pitches, 52 strikes)

Nabil Crismatt delivered the best start of his Chihuahaus tenure with five innings of two-run baseball. The right-hander punched out a season-high seven batters in the game, effectively blending in his excellent changeup. Reliever Jayvien Sandridge was tagged with the loss, as he allowed an unearned run on two walks and a pair of wild pitches. It hasn’t been easy goings for Sandridge at Triple-A, as the left-hander sports a WHIP of 2.11 in 19 innings. Flamethrower Francis Pena made his Triple-A debut, walking one in a scoreless inning of relief and peaking at 97.8 mph on his sinker.

The two Chihuahuas runs came in the fourth against Sugar Land starter Colton Gordon, with Kevin Plawecki homering and Mason McCoy notching an RBI single. McCoy was the lone member of the Chihuahuas to record two hits. Tirso Ornelas drew a pinch-hit walk, and Matthew Batten reached base twice in the game. Brandon Valenzuela, making his Triple-A debut, drew a walk and went hitless in three at-bats.

San Antonio Missions (Lost 7-4 vs Springfield) (46-56 on the season)
Michael De La Cruz – 2 for 4, Bases-Clearing Double
Marcos Castanon – 2 for 3, RBI Single
Austin Krob – 5 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 3 K (80 pitches, 51 strikes)

Starter Austin Krob battled through a difficult second and fifth innings in this game, as five of six hits allowed came in either of those two frames. Krob struck out three batters in his start, walking only one. It also marked the third start in a row in which Krob has kept the ball in the ballpark, having last allowed a home run on July 20.

Marcos Castanon opened the Missions’ scoring with an RBI single, bringing the game within one run at the time. In the sixth inning came the Missions’ biggest hit of the day, a bases-clearing double from Michael De La Cruz. The veteran backstop found himself at the keystone today and delivered nonetheless. Connor Hollis also delivered a multi-hit game, and Romeo Sanabria notched his first career Double-A base hit.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 3-1 vs South Bend) (42-62 on the season)
Nerwilian Cedeño – 1 for 4, Two-Run Home Run
Ethan Salas – 2 for 4, Double, Run Scored
Braden Nett – 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 3 K (81 pitches, 49 strikes)

In a well-pitched game, the TinCaps’ offense delivered just enough to win. Nerwilian Cedeño drilled a two-run homer in the third inning to put Fort Wayne up 2-0. That wound up being a strong enough lead for right-hander Braden Nett, who delivered his third straight strong start. Nett allowed one run on two hits in five innings, pitching in an “effectively wild” fashion. The right-hander allowed four walks but stuck out three and recorded seven ground ball outs. Nett has shown improvements over his last three starts, posting a 2.29 ERA in that span.

Joshua Mears delivered a two-hit game, as did Ethan Salas, who doubled and scored on a base hit from Devin Ortiz. Right-hander Dwayne Matos recorded a seven-out save for the first time in his career, closing out the game on a groundout.

I'd like this amount to

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 9-7 vs Stockton) (53-49 on the season)
Leodalis De Vries – 2 for 4, Home Run
Jack Costello – 2 for 5, Three-Run Home Run
Javier Chacon – 3 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K (52 pitches, 34 strikes)

Sensational! That’s the word of the day for Leodalis De Vries, as the Padres’ No. 2 prospect hit another home run. De Vries scored twice, with his home run being his tenth of the season. After a slow start, it is safe to say that “El Mutante” has arrived. Recent draftees Jack Costello and Brandon Butterworth made their presences known, with Costello crushing a no-doubt three-run home run in the fourth inning. Costello has drawn praise for his power and bat control in his time at USD, and it certainly showed. Butterworth delivered his second double in as many games, scoring twice and driving in a run of his own.

Starter Javier Chacon (making his first start of the season) pitched three innings, allowing four runs on five hits. Chacon has not started a game since 2022 in the ACL, so his ability to get through three innings was valuable. Reliever Yerry Landinez earned the win, striking out three and allowing a run in 1.2 innings of relief.
