Padres Down on the Farm: August 6 (Davila impressive in DSL again/Salas homers for FW)
San Diego Padres affiliates went 4-3 on Tuesday.
Here is a recap of the day’s events.
El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 2-1 to Sugar Land) (44-65 on the season)
Cal Mitchell- (1-for-4) 2B, Run
Mason McCoy– (2-for-3) RBI
Omar Cruz– 5.2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, K (85 pitches- 55 strikes)
The Chihuahuas lost a close one in Sugar Land as a pitcher’s duel broke out. Jhony Brito started the game but only managed to record one out before leaving. He allowed one run before departing and walked three batters. He was charged with the loss. Omar Cruz relieved him, and the lefty went 5.2 innings, allowing just one run on one hit.
Mason McCoy went 2-for-3 in the loss, and Cal Mitchell was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored for the Chihuahuas. Newly acquired outfielder Brandon Lockridge was 0-for-2 with two walks for El Paso.
San Antonio Missions (Lost 11-0 to Springfield) (46-55 on the season)
Michael De La Cruz– (1-f0r-3)
Connor Hollis– (1-for-4) 2B
Victor Lizarraga– 2.1 IP, 6 H, 7 ER, 3 BB, 2 K (63 pitches- 36 strikes)
The Missions got trounced on the road as the Springfield Cardinal knocked around Victor Lizarraga. The righty gave up seven earned runs in 2.1 innings pitched in his worst start of the year/ Lizarraga is 20 and the native of South San Diego is still learning. He now owns a 4.19 ERA on the season for the Missions.
The offense did next to nothing. The team managed two hits and one walk while striking out 12 times. Connor Hollis doubled in four at-bats, and Michael De La Cruz was 1-for-3 in the loss. Robert Perez Jr. was 0-for-3 in the game with three strikeouts.
Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 5-2 over South Bend) (41-62 on the season)
Ethan Salas– (1-for-4) HR, 3 RBI, Run
Nick Vogt– (1-for-2) 2 BB, Run
Jagger Haynes– 6 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 6 K (80 pitches- 58 strikes)
The TinCaps came back on a three-run homer off the bat of Ethan Salas in the 8th inning. The young catcher was 1-for-4 in the game with three runs driven in and a run scored. Nick Vogt walked twice and was 1-for-2 at the plate in the win. Ethan Long debuted for the TinCaps and was 1-for-4 in the game with a run scored. Fort Wayne added two more runs in the 9th inning as Nik McClaughry doubled in a pair. Brandon Butterworth doubled for his first professional hit. The 12th-round pick out of North Carolina State went 1-for-3 in the game.

Jagger Haynes pitched effectively in the win. The lefty went six innings and allowed two earned runs. He struck out six and did not walk a batter. Haynes is showing improved command, and that is a very good thing for the Padres. He may reach his ceiling if he continues to pound the zone effectively.
Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 6-3 over Stockton) (52-49 on the season)
Leodalis De Vries– (1-for-4) Run
Braedon Karpathios– (2-for-4) 2 RBI, SB
Luis Gutierrez- 5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K (86 pitches- 55 strikes)
The Lake Elsinore Storm were in control the whole game in a 6-w win over Stockton. Leodalis De Vries continued his hot heating as he went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Braedon Karpathios was 2-for-4 in the win with a stolen base and two runs driven in. Kai Roberts went 2-for-4 with a run and a walk.
Luis Gutierrez threw 5.1 innings, allowing only three hits. The 21-year-old lefty owns a 6.00 ERA on the season. Miguel Valdez earned the save as the 21-year-old got the last six outs of the game for the Storm. Luis German coughed up two runs in 1.2 innings of work.

A three-run sixth powered the DSL Padres Brown team to a win over the DSL Braves. The game was a make-up game from July 17. Jason Hernandez was 2-for-2 in the win with three stolen bases. Juan Martinez doubled and drove in a run for the Padres. Edinson Hernandez threw five innings and allowed one unearned run while striking out four batters.
Games #2 (Lost 7-3 to DSL Braves) (13-33 on the season)

Joseph Herrera– 4 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
In the second game of two, the DSL Padres Brown team could not get much going offensively, The team only managed three hits in the game and commited three errors which resulted in two unearned runs. Dayquer Alfonzo went 2-for-3 in the loss and drove in a pair of runs. Joseph Herrera started the game and went four innings, allowing one earned run while striking out five batters.
DSL Padres Gold (Won 1-0 over DSL Astros Orange) (21-24 on the season)
Manuel Davila– 6 IP, 4 H, 6 K
Dionicio Nova– (Win) 1 IP, BB
Gustavo Marquez– (0-for-2) Run
The DSL Padres Gold team won 1-0 despite being no-hit by the Astros. The Padres managed three walks in the game, which made the difference as Gustavo Marquez scored in the bottom of the 7th with one out as Kevin Hacen struck a ball to center, which was deep enough to score Gustavo Marquez. The Padres stole two bases in the game and struck out ten times as a team.
On the mound, Manuel Davila of Mexico continues to show impressive stuff. The 16-year-old holds a 2.79 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP in his debut in pro ball. Davila should see time in the States very soon. He turns 17 on Thursday and has a huge upside. Dionicio Nova earned the win, recording the last three outs for the Padres.
