Javy Guerra pitched a scoreless inning in his second outing for the Sod Poodles while David Bednar struck out the side in a perfect ninth for his thirteenth save of the year.

Tirso Ornelas also had four hits and was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. Joey Cantillo struggled on the mound as he allowed four earned runs in 4.1 innings.

Much like the other AZL Padres squad, the Friars surrendered 15 runs en route to a big loss. Starter Miguel Rondon only pitched one inning and allowed four runs on five hits. The Padres bullpen surrendered the other 11 runs, but only six were earned as the young Padres committed four errors on the field. Payton Smith had two hits, including a two-run home run, but the Padres failed to capitalize on the seven errors committed by the AZL Cubs 2 squad. Franchy Cordero started his rehab assignment, going 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.
Franchy Cordero: 1-2, RBI, Run Scoring, BB
Payton Smith: 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 Run Scored, K, E

AZL Padres 2 (37-17) Lost 15-6
The AZL Padres 2 pitching got hit hard by AZL Oakland Gold Squad that had 16 hits. The five errors committed by Padres’ fielders didn’t help matters much either. Carlos Guarate absorbed his first loss of the season, allowing seven runs (four earned) on eight hits while walking two and striking out five. The three relief pitchers who entered the game after him allowed at least one earned run. Jared Alvarez-Lopez had a two-run single as three of the six runs the Padres scored were unearned.
Jared Alvarez-Lopez: 2-5, 2 RBI
Luis Almanzar: 2-3, RBI, Run Scored, BB

Willmert Paula entered the game as a replacement for Nerwilian Cedeno and went 1-for-2 with an RBI double. Wilfredo Tovar continues to hit well as he went 2-for-4 on the day.
