Padres Down on the Farm: August 10 (Potts homers for Amarillo/Campusano homers for LE/France continues to dominate PCL)

The minor league affiliates for the San Diego Padres went 4-4 on Saturday.

Here is a brief recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas Won 10-9 (68-50)

A seven-run second inning propelled the Chihuahuas to victory over the former San Diego affiliate Missions today. Ty France continues to torch Triple-A pitching, going 4-for-5 with a home run and two doubles. His batting average now sits at a sparkling .406, and his second-inning three-run homer was the 27th of the season.Ā  Seth Mejias-Brean also had three hits on the day while both Rodrigo Orozco and Boog Powell had two hits each. The offense carried Dillon Overton to a victory despite the starter allowing six runs on eight hits in five innings while walking three and striking out four.

Amarillo Sod Poodles Lost 6-2 (62-54)

Despite pitching seven innings and striking out seven, Nick Margevicius still took the loss as he allowed six runs in a loss. Hudson Potts contribute to one of the two runs by hitting a solo home run in the fourth inning. Taylor Kohlwey drove in the other run with an RBI single. The Sod Poodles went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. The game actually began in a delay as the power at Frisco’s stadium went out before the game began.

Lake Elsinore Storm Won 8-3 (61-56)

Mason Thompson made a one-inning start with Lake Elsinore and allowed two hits. Luis Campusano, Gabriel Arias, and Jack Suwinski all cleared the fences for the twelfth, tenth, and twelfth time this season respectively. Arias also had two singles to go along with the homer. Xavier Edwards hit went 2-for-5 with two triples to raise his batting average to .347 in High-A. Caleb Boushley pitched 4.1 innings and allowed two runs on four hits to earn the win.

Fort Wayne TinCaps Lost 3-0 (53-63)

Three South Bend pitchers combined to shutout the TinCaps and allowed just five hits. Blake Hunt got three of those five hits with a 3-for-4 day. Justin Lopez and Ethan Skender had the other two hits in the game. Starter Adrian Martinez was the tough-luck loser after pitching 5.2 innings and allowing two runs on five hits while striking out four. The TinCaps struck out 12 times as a team while going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

Tri-City Dust Devils Won 8-3 (24-30)

By the time Spokane scored three runs in the fifth inning, Tri-City had already outpaced them by scoring eight runs in the previous innings. Seven of the ten hits Tri-City collected went for extra bases. 21st-round pick Jack Stronach had himself a big day, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Kelvin Melean and Luke Becker collected two RBIs each. Starter Ethan Elliot pitched four scoreless innings and struck out four emerge as the victorious pitcher.

AZL Padres 1 Won 8-0 (26-16)

Every positional player with the exception of Joshua Mears collected at least one base hit in their victory over the AZL Reds. Four Padres pitchers combined to pitch a shutout with starter Edgar Martinez tossing five innings and striking out eight batters. Both Chris Givin and Yordi Francisco went 2-for-4, with Given collecting two RBIs and Francisco hitting a sacrifice fly.

AZL Padres 2 Lost 5-2 (29-14)

The Padres scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, but those were the only two runs they scored. Both runs came across on a Luis Almanzar double, which was his only hit of the game. Jarryd Dale went 3-for-4 and raised his batting average to .305. Robert Stock started the game as an opener and struck out two in his only inning of work. Gabriel Morales followed him and pitched five shutout innings while striking out nine, lowering his ERA to 2.15 in the process. However, it was Eudi Asencio who took the loss, allowing two runs to score in one inning.

DSL Padres Lost 6-0 (27-32)

The Padres only managed four hits today against the DSL Orioles. Only four of the Orioles runs were earned as the Padres committed three errors on the day. Starter Jairo Iriarte allowed three runs in three innings pitched. Edwin Rojas went 1-for-4 with a double. It was the only extra-base hit the Padres had for the game.
