EVT Fantasy Football: Four “Must-Starts” For Week 5
Quarterback
Brady is back. While it appeared the Patriots were in serious trouble to start the season, New England has actually found success in his absence. Jacoby Brissett and Jimmy Garoppolo held down the fort relatively well, but now it’s time for Brady to take back what is rightfully his. Brady has a very enticing match up verses the Browns this week and it’s safe to assume he will be out to be prove a point. “System Quarterback” or not, an angry Tom Brady is a dangerous Tom Brady. Expect Belichick to give Brady plenty of opportunities to have a monster day.
Also consider: Philip Rivers, Derek Carr, Ben Roethlisberger, Carson Wentz
Running back
DeMarco Murry has found new life in his current stint with the Tennessee Titans. He’s been dominant as the workhorse of their backfield and shows little sign of slowing down. Between running the ball and pass catching, he is constantly involved in the offense. Marcus Mariota is still figuring out how to be a consistently productive NFL quarterback and an aging Delanie Walker won’t be around for much longer. Murray is in a prime position to put the team on his back. Especially in PPR leagues. He should have an explosive day against a Miami defense that has given up the fourth most rush yards per game to running backs in 2016.
Also consider: Melvin Gordon, DeAndre Washington, Terrance West, Le’Veon Bell
Wide receiver
Marshall saw an uptick in production with the absence of Eric Decker last week at Seattle. Though he only had four catches on twelve targets, he racked up 89 yards and a touchdown. That’s impressive, considering Richard Sherman was the one covering him for most of the game. With Decker still sidelined with an injury, Marshall could, once again, be in for a busy day. The Steelers are surrendering the fourth most yards per game to wide receivers this year. Pittsburgh’s offense looks unstoppable at the moment which means the Jets may be forced to throw early and often to keep up.
Also consider: Amari Cooper, Travis Benjamin, T.Y. Hilton, Jarvis Landry
Tight End
Philadelphia and Detroit could be in for a potential shootout on Sunday. Rookie quarterback Carson Wentz has looked spectacular through his first few games as an NFL pro. Wentz and wide receiver Jordan Matthews have had good chemistry thus far and everyone is aware of that. The Lion’s game plan may be to shut down Matthews at all costs. This may leave Ertz as Wentz’ next best option. Ertz has been very productive when healthy, but a rib injury has halted his production. However, Detroit’s secondary ranks in the bottom half of passing defense this year. If Ertz is 100 percent, he may be the go-to guy in short yardage situations, as well as in the end zone.
