Down on the Farm: Winter League Roundup- October 31
Happy Halloween from the EVT staff.
The San Diego Padres had many prospects in action on Tuesday, as a total of 11 players participated in game action.
The Peoroia Javelinas continue to play well as the team beat the Surprise Saguaros 9-2 on Tuesday afternoon. The team is now 11-7 on the year and has a three game lead on the Glendale Desert Dogs in the AFL West standings.
There were games in Mexico, the DR, and Venezuela as Fernando Tatis, Franchy Cordero, and others were able to get some hacks in.
The Latin Winter Leagues last all the way into late December, so there will be plenty of action from these young men.
ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE
Josh Naylor continues his slump as the first baseman is now 0-14 since his game-winning home run on the 27th. His average was at .378 then, but is down to .288 after he went 0-5 on Tuesday with a strikeout. Nothing of great concern as he surely will breakout at any time. Expect a hot-streak from him in the next week or so.
Luis Urias played shortstop for the Javelinas, and went 1-1 with three walks and a sacrifice fly on the day. He drove in one run and scored a run in the Javelinas’ victory. Urias did make an error at short fielding a ball, so it remains to be seen if he has the ability to play the position long-term.
Franmil Reyes hit a towering home run in the first inning of the game, but was removed prior to returning to the field for the second. The pitch before hitting the home run, he fouled a pitch off his leg. His injury will be re-evaluated tomorrow. The video is below of his homer.

CARRIBEAN/MEXICAN/VENEZUELAN WINTER LEAGUES
Rafael Ortega is buried in the Padres’ system. He is 26 and pretty much ready for major league action, but the team is stacked with potential outfielders at the moment. He was 1-4 on Tuesday with three RBI, two runs scored, a walk, and a strike out. He is hitting .308 early in his winter league season.
Franchy Cordero continues to play everyday for his Dominican team and was 1-3 on Tuesday. He scored a run, drew a walk, and stole a base. The outfielder also struck out once, as he continues to struggle with making contact from time to time.
Luis Torrens has received plenty of playing time with his Venezuelan League team. He was 0-4 on Halloween with one strikeout and is now hitting .254 on the year.
Fernando Tatis Jr. played shortstop and went 1-4. He also committed two errors at the position as he continues to learn the subtle nuances of the position. Tatis is hitting .250 and in a bit of a slump currently for his Dominican team.
Alberth Martinez got a start in center field and went 2-4 with a home run, RBI, run scored, and a double on Tuesday. He is hitting .286 so far this season.
Fernando Perez has been playing well in Mexico and went 3-5 with a double, two RBI and a strikeout. He is hitting .380 for his Mexican Winter League team.
Eric Yardley threw another scoreless inning on Tuesday as he allowed two hits, but was able to get out of the jam. He continues to keep his ERA at 0.00 for the year.
Gerardo Reyes threw 0.2 innings on Tuesday, allowing one hit and no earned runs. His ERA is at 5.79 now.
