Down on the Farm: Winter League Roundup- October 27
A total of 10 Padres minor leaguers got into game action on Friday.
Josh Naylor hit a game-winning home run in the bottom of the eighth off Keegan Akin from the Orioles to give the Javelinas the 9-8 win.
Peoria is now 9-6 on the year and in first place in the AFL.
There was plenty of action in the Caribbean leagues, as both Fernando Tatis’ and Franchy Cordero‘s teams were in action in the DR. The Estrellas were victorious over Licey 4-1 as Escogido lost to the Toros. Both teams are 7-3 on the year and in first place in their division.
ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE
Josh Naylor not only drove in the winning run, but was 4-5 on the day with two RBI, a double, and a run scored. The first baseman is now hitting .378 on the year and continues to develop before our very eyes. He has excepted all challenges and exceeded expectations so far in his career.
CARIBBEAN WINTER LEAGUES
Fernando Tatis Jr. went 0-4 on Friday, but he did walk once and score a run. He continues to show improved plate discipline.
Rafael Ortega made his debut in the winter and went 2-3 with two runs, a double, and a walk. The versatile outfielder has not had an opportunity to play for the Padres, but could get an extended look this spring.
Luis Torrens was 0-4 as the backstop has been in a bit of a slump. He is now at .235 for the year.
Alberth Martinez was 1-4 with two strikeouts on Friday and is down to .255 on the season.
Franchy Cordero was 1-4 with a strikeout. The speedy center fielder is hitting .325 on the year and batting third on most nights for his Dominican team. The video below is from Franchy on Wednesday.

Fernando Perez went 3-5 with a two runs and a strikeout. He is hitting .361 on the year.
Eric Yardley continues to be perfect as he went a scoreless inning on Friday and maintained his 0.00 ERA.
Trevor Frank was able to go a scoreless inning, lowering his ERA to 7.36 on the season.
Cesar Vargas pitched well, going 2.2 innings and allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out six. He has a 2.51 ERA in Mexico.
