Down on the Farm: Winter League Roundup- November 30
The San Diego Padres had a total of eight men playing winter league baseball on Thursday.
The Dominican League only had one game on the schedule and none of the Padres’ minor leaguers played.
Buddy Reed and Gabriel Arias continue to play everyday in Australia. Both men got in a few at bats in a game that was suspended by rain and will be continued tonight.
Venezuelan Baseball League
Luis Torrens was 2-6 with a double, run, walk, and two strikeouts. He is hitting .299 on the year. He played first base as he continues to play other positions beside catcher. It appears that he has been shut down from catching for the rest of the winter.
Jose Ruiz was roughed up as he allowed two runs on two hits. He only recorded one out as his ERA climbed to 3.94 on the year.
Australian Baseball League
Buddy Reed was 1-2 with an infield single (video below). Speed does not take a day off and Reed has plenty of it. He is hitting .241 on the year in Australia. The switch hitter has shown plus defense in the few chances he has had this season in center.

Gabriel Arias was 1-2 with a two-run triple and a strikeout. He is hitting .185 so far this season. I did notice he changed his uniform number from #10 to #13. Perhaps the 17-year-old is superstitious and unhappy with his slow start.

Mexican Baseball League
Fernando Perez was 3-4 with two runs scored as his batting average climbed to .351 on the year.
Allen Cordoba was 0-0 as he scored a run as a pinch runner. He is hitting .296 in a handful of at bats in Mexico.
Cesar Vargas went two innings, allowing one hit while striking out two batters. His ERA is 3.48 now for the year.
Gerardo Reyes allowed one hit and walked one batter in 1.1 innings pitched. He also struck out a batter on Thursday, as his ERA was lowered to 1.76 on the year.
