Down on the Farm: Winter League Roundup- November 25
The San Diego Padres had a total of eight players participating in action on Saturday.
Australian Baseball League
Buddy Reed was 0-3 with a walk and is hitting .217 on the year in Australia. He has been playing exceptional defense and has flashed tremendous speed on the base paths. Hopefully the 2018 season is a breakout year for the athletic switch-hitter.
Gabriel Arias was 0-3 with two strikeouts. The 17-year-old is hitting .182 so far in the season. He is a bit overmatched presently, but the shortstop is still flashing the glove in Australia. He has a great future with the team.
Dominican Baseball League
Franchy Cordero was 1-4 with an RBI and a strikeout. He was playing left field and batting second for his Dominican team. The speedy outfielder has a .304 batting average so far this season.
Miguel Diaz allowed one run in 0.1 innings pitched on Saturday. He walked a batter and struck out one as his ERA rose to 27.00 on the year. The young right-hander is just getting some innings in. He should start 2018 in the minors, but has a decent future with the team.
Mexican Baseball League
Fernando Perez was 1-4 with a double and two strikeouts on Saturday. He is hitting .346 on the year for his Mexican team. The young infielder has been playing second base recently as he looks to prove his versatility.
Allen Cordoba, another Rule-5 guy is getting at bats in Mexico. He went 1-3 on Saturday with a run and is hitting .333 early in his Winter League season. Cordoba has been playing left field, so it looks like his future will be in the outfield for the Padres.
Kyle Lloyd threw well on Saturday. He stuck out three and allowed one run on five hits in six innings. The right-handed pitcher has his ERA at 1.96 on the year for his Mexican team.
Venezuelan Baseball League
Trevor Frank threw a scoreless inning and lowered his ERA to 1.96 on the season.
