Down on The Farm: Winter League Roundup- December 6 (Franchy & Jabari Go Deep)
With the AFL wrapped, the prospect watch has slowed down dramatically. The Australian Baseball League is still going strong, but the Canberra Cavalry has been off for the past five days. The ABL is off during the week as the teams travel.
I will try to keep you up to date on the daily happenings, but will only do so if five or more players participate in action for that day.
On December 6, the Mexican League provided four out of the five Padres players participating in game play. Here is a look at what went on.
Mexican Winter Leagues
Fernando Perez was 1-4 with an RBI. The infielder has a solid .329 average so far in Mexico where he has played all over the diamond in the infield. Recently he has played a ton of second base as the former Otay High School product displays his versatility.
Gerardo Reyes threw a scoreless inning, allowing one walk and striking out one batter. He lowered his ERA to 2.12 on the year. The right-handed reliever has a very lively fastball and he could be a factor very soon for the Padres in their bullpen.
Allen Cordoba played third base on Wednesday and went 1-3. He is hitting .283 on the year in Mexico. The start at third is interesting as the Padres lack third base depth in the upper minor leagues. That is where Cordoba seems to be destined to start his 2018 season.
Jabari Blash went deep on Wednesday. He was 2-5 with a homer, two RBI, and a run scored. In true Jabari Blash fashion, he struck out in the three other at bats on the night. The power is there for this lanky outfielder, but he also swings and misses a lot.

Dominican Winter Leagues
Franchy Cordero was 2-2 with a homer, double, and two runs scored. Franchy is hitting .322 on the year and has played all over the outfield for his D.R. team.
