Down on the Farm: Winter League Roundup- December 3
There were eight Padres in action on Sunday throughout the globe.
The Australian Baseball League does not have games for a few days, but there was still plenty of news in other leagues.
The Padres’ hitters were 2-21 on the day with 11 strikeouts (ouch). The three Padre’ hurlers did much better in their 2.1 innings pitched.
Mexican Winter League
Fernando Perez was 0-3 with two strikeouts. The infielder is hitting .333 on the year and has been playing all over the baseball diamond on the infield.
Allen Cordoba was 1-4 with a strikeout on Sunday. He is hitting .282 on the year in only a handful of at bats.
Jabari Blash was 1-4 with a double and a RBI. He struck out three times on the day and is hitting .200 so far in only a couple of games.
Cesar Vargas threw a perfect inning on Sunday, striking out a batter. The right-handed hurler has seen an uptick in his velocity this season and he holds a 3.38 ERA so far in the Mexican winter league.
Dominican Winter League
Franchy Cordero was 0-5 with two strikeouts. His average dips below .300 now as the center fielder is hitting .296 on the year.
Miguel Diaz allowed one run on one hit in 0.1 innings pitched. His ERA is at 10.80 so far in just a few games. The right-hander will need to show more if he has hopes of starting the 2018 season with the Padres’ big league team.
Venezuelan Winter League
Trevor Frank went one inning on Sunday, allowing two hits and no runs. He struck out one batter and lowered his ERA to 3.71 on the year.
Luis Torrens played first base and went 0-5 with three strikeouts. His average is at .281 on the season for his Venezuelan team.
