Down on the Farm: July 19
The San Diego Padres’ affiliates were 3-4 on the day.
The Chihuahuas were unable to get the offense going in Sacramento and lost 3-1. They only managed one run on the day and gave no run support to Dillon Overton, who had a decent start. The Chihuahuas put the ball in play, only striking out six times on the day, but just could not get the key hit when it mattered.
In San Antonio, the Missions were able to capitalize on five quality innings from Brett Kennedy. Luis Urias walked three times on the night and Franmil Reyes had two hits and an RBI. The bullpen for the Missions continues to dominate, as they didn’t allow a run in four innings pitched. T.J. Weir, Aroni Nina, and Trey Wingenter were flawless for the Missions as they won 3-1.
The TinCaps were victorious 3-0, behind a brilliant start from Pedro Avila. He went seven innings and struck out 11 batters without allowing a run. Hudson Potts and Nate Easley both recorded two hits for the TinCaps. Hansel Rodriguez pitched the ninth, striking out two batters.
Ben Sheckler struggled with his command, as he walked three batters and allowed three runs on six hits on Wednesday night. The Dust Devils were still able to pull out the victory as Luis Anguizola had three hits and Justin Lopez, Luis Almanzar, and Luis Asuncion all recorded two hits. The team did make four errors on the night, but were able to win 8-5.
The AZL Padres team was shutout, as they only managed five hits on the night. Jeisson Rosario and Jonny Homza recorded two hits each, and the fifth hit was off the bat of Jaquez Williams. 14 Padres batters struck out on the night, as they just could not get anything going offensively. Cory Mazzoni threw another scoreless inning of relief and still has yet to give up a run in the AZL.
Ramon Perez was roughed up, as the AZL Padres 2 team was beaten up 10-2 Wednesday night. The team only managed four hits on the night and looked punchless. Blake Hunt hit a triple and scored a run for the Padres, but little else happened offensively. Travis Jankowski received four at bats (1-4) with the team, but struck out three times. He is working his way back from a foot injury.
The DSL Padres won 5-4, as Luis Eusebio went six innings and struck out five batters. Gilberto Vizcarra went 2-3 and Blinger Perez had a double in four plate appearances. It was only their 12th win in 35 games.
