The minor league affiliates for the San Diego Padres were 3-4 on Sunday.

Here is a quick recap of the day’s action.

Padres in the Futures Game

The Padres sent three players to the All-Star Futures game in our nation’s capital as Fernando Tatis Jr. Luis Urias and Buddy Reed. They last sent three players in 2016 when San Diego hosted the All-Star Game and its festivities, sending Carlos Asuaje, Hunter Renfroe and Manny Margot. All three who were sent there have all reached the Major Leagues this year. Here is a quick recap of how the trio performed

  • Luis Urias: Ranked the third best prospect in the Padres system and 29th in baseball by MLB Pipeline, Urias started at second base and batted sixth for the World Team. The second baseman struck out in two at-bats, but was also struck in the elbow with a 100 MPH fastball from Cincinnati Reds prospect Hunter Greene, but he came out unscathed and was lifted in the fifth inning for Luis Garcia of the Washington Nationals.
  • Buddy Reed: The newest addition to the San Antonio Missions, Reed was placed on the US team after setting High-A on fire with his play. Coming on in the fifth inning, he replaced Alex Kirilloff of the Minnesota Twins in center field. The jolly outfielder had the time of his life in center field, robbing Fernando Tatis Jr.of an extra base hit and playfully laughing in the dugout with the rest of his teammates. He was 1-2 at the plate.
  • Fernando Tatis Jr. The number one prospect in the Padres system and third in baseball by Pipeline, Tatis got the nod at shortstop while batting second for the World Team. Tatis had two hits on the day and would’ve had a third were it not for his teammate Reed in center field while also stealing a base. One of his hits came off a 102 MPH fastball from Greene, and he would eventually finish the game at third base.

El Paso Chihuahuas (50-44) Lost 4-1

For the second straight game, the Chihuahuas allowed four runs and only scored on as they were swept by the Reno Aces. Walker Lockett pitched seven innings, but allowed four runs to cross the plate on seven hits while allowing two home runs. The only form of offense for El Paso came in the seventh innings as a Shane Peterson single brought home Diego Goris to score the only run for El Paso. The team has now lost four games in a row.

Hudson Potts picked up the only runs for the Storm thanks to a RBI double in the first inning and a solo home run in the fourth inning. An unearned run allowed by Jake Sims pushed the Indians 2 over the edge and gave them a three run lead. An Agustin Ruiz triple put the Padres on the board, while a double play in the ninth brought home the second run for the Padres. A third and tying run, however, never crossed the plate.

Dominic Taccolini and Felix Minjarez finished the game with one and two scoreless innings respectively. An unearned run as well as a RBI double from Blinger Perez provided all the run support the Padres would need for the victory.
