Down on the Farm: August 28 (Mejia Fifth El Paso Homer, Lawson Goes Six Strong)
The minor league affiliates for the San Diego Padres were 1-2.
Here is a recap of the day’s action:
El Paso Chihuahuas (79-54) Lost 9-4
The El Paso Chihuahuas, having already punched their ticket to the playoffs, absorbed the loss but are still in good shape for the playoffs. Francisco Mejia, having seen Luis Urias get his call up, is now starting to shout at the Padres himself by slugging his fifth home run with El Paso. Auston Bousfield cracked a home run himself, but two errors sunk starter Cal Quantrill. He allowed eight runs (four earned) on eight hits while walking two and striking out two, all in only three innings, absorbing the loss in the process.
Francisco Mejia: 1-3, HR, 2 RBI, R,BB, K
Shane Peterson: 1-5, RBI, 2B, 2 K
Auston Bousfield: 1-2, HR, RBI, 2 R, 2 BB, K
Brett Nicholas: 1-3, BB, K
Cal Quantrill: 3 IP, 8 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K (67 pitches-41 strikes) Loss
San Antonio Missions (70-62) Lost 4-3
An intense first inning saw the Missions score three runs and the Midland Rockhounds score four, but those would be the only runs that would score in the game. All four runs were charged to Elliot Ashbeck, who pitched three innings and struck out three and allowed six hits. Kyle Overstreet picked up two RBI with a single and Taylor Kohlwey drove him in with an RBI single.
Kyle Overstreet: 1-4, 2 RBI, R
Taylor Kohlwey: 1-3, RBI, BB, K
Buddy Reed: 1-4, R, BB, 2 K, SB
Josh Naylor: 1-3, BB
Elliot Ashbeck: 3 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 K (54 pitches-36 strikes) Loss
Lake Elsinore Storm (64-70) Won 3-1
After being tied for a majority of the game, the Storm came back with runs in both the eighth and ninth inning to pick up the victory. Reggie Lawson pitched a dandy of a game, going six innings and allowing just a single run while striking out eight. Rod Boykin put the Storm in the lead with his solo home run in the eighth inning, and he would draw a bases loaded walk in the ninth inning to score Edward Olivares to add an insurance run. Dauris Valdez pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his twelfth save.
Rod Boykin: 2-3, HR, 2 RBI, R, BB, K
Edward Olivares: 0-2, RBI, R, BB, SB
Chris Baker: 1-3, 3B, BB, K
Reggie Lawson: 6 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 2 BB, 8 K (92 pitches-63 strikes) Win
