El Paso Chihuahuas (58-62) Won 4-3

Right-hander and newest Chihuahua, Jordan Lyles, took the ball for the Chihuahuas on Saturday night in his first appearance in the Padres’ organization. After a harmless single in the first, Lyles ran into some trouble in the second inning, as Lyles gave up two singles, a walk, and a two-run single after getting the first batter out to start the inning. After a one-two-three third inning, Lyles’ day was done with just the two earned runs. In his place, fellow right-hander Michael Kelly, who has had some trouble as of late, came on in relief. In his three innings, Kelly walked five batters, including three in a row in the sixth inning which led to an RBI single by Matt Reynolds. The Chihuahuas finally answered back in the bottom of the 8th with an RBI triple by Franchy Cordero. The Chihuahuas completed the comeback in the 9th inning with a Ryan Schimpf solo home run, two singles, and an error, and a game-winning single by Franchy Cordero.

San Antonio Missions (69-49) Won 3-1

The San Antonio Missions were quiet at the plate on Saturday night, but right-hander Enyel De Los Santos didn’t need much help. The Missions were on the board first in the bottom of the first with a two-out walk by Nick Torres, followed by an RBI double by Ty France. The Missions’ offense stayed quiet until the fifth inning when they pushed two more runs across, this time on a pair of walks and a two-run single by Nick Torres. On the other side of the ball, De Los Santos dazzled, as the big right-hander did not give up a single hit until the eighth inning after retiring 21 of the first 23 batters he faced. After a one-out walk and a double in the eighth, the Tulsa Drillers pushed across their only run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Johan Mieses. Eric Yardley faced some trouble in the ninth, but he was able to shut the door and secure the win for the Missions.

Lake Elsinore Storm (55-64) Lost 5-4

Things got off to a bit of a rocky start for the Storm and their starter, Jerry Keel. After a leadoff double to start the bottom of the first inning, Keel gave up a triple followed by a batter reaching on an error, which quickly plated two runs for the Lancaster Jethawks. However, Keel settled in and did not give up another run over the next five innings, giving up just three hits in the process. On the offensive side, the Storm were a little quiet, although they did push across two runs in the third to tie the game. Going into the ninth, the game remained tied 2-2. After a leadoff single by Fernando Perez followed by a walk by Carlos Belen, a force-out plated the lead run and an Edwin Moreno double plated an insurance run, pushing the Storm lead to 4-2. Trevor Frank, who pitched a scoreless eighth, stayed on to pitch the ninth. Things didn’t go well for Frank, as a walk and two home runs sank his outing and the Storm night.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (58-60) Won 7-1

After both teams went scoreless through the first two innings, despite an early pitching change by Bowling Green due to an injury, the Hot Rods pushed across the first run of the game in the top of the third with a walk, followed by a wild pitch and a base hit. However, the TinCaps answered right back in the bottom half of the inning and never looked back, plating one run in the third, and two in the fifth, seventh, and eighth. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit his 21st home run of the season, setting a TinCaps record, while Jorge Ona also drove in two runs on the night. Adrian Morejon made it through six innings with just the one earned run.

Tri-City Dust Devils (29-25) Lost 5-3

Thomas Cosgrove took the ball for the Dust Devils on Saturday night and ended up getting the loss, as he gave up four runs in total, two of which were unearned. The Dust Devils started the scoring in the bottom of the third with three two-out singles that plated two runs. However, the Hops answered back with four fifth inning runs, marked by two bunt singles, a hit batter, a few sacrifices, a throwing error, and several walks. The Dust Devils added a run on a Tyler Benson single in the seventh, but a late inning insurance run from the Hops was enough to secure the victory for Hillsboro.

AZL Padres (20-18) Won 9-7 & AZL Padres 2 (20-17) Tied 5-5

Rain shortened the AZL Padres Saturday night game, but the team was able to hold on for a 9-7 victory. After five first inning runs off of the recently drafted right-hander, Sam Keating, the Padres answered back with one run of their own in the third followed by six runs in the fourth, led by a two-run double by Dayon Olmo and a two-run single from Jeisson Rosario. The Padres and Mariners both plated two runs in the fifth before the game was called because of rain.

The AZL Padres 2 game was also suspended because of rain, with the team ending the game in a tie. After both teams plated several runs in the first inning, with Mason House getting an RBI triple for the Padres, the scoring was quiet until the sixth inning, when both teams again scored several runs. Juan Fernandez and Nick Feight both had doubles which led to two Padres runs to end the game in a tie.
