Down on the Farm: 4-26 (Javy Guerra Goes Deep)
The San Diego Padres’ affiliates were 1-2 on Thursday as the Lake Elsinore Storm were off for the day.
Not much in terms of offensive output from the stars, nor were there any stud prospects on the mound for the affiliates.
There was still plenty to see, and here is your daily recap for 4-26-18:
El Paso Chihuahuas (15-6) Lost 6-5
Despite scoring four runs in the bottom of the first, El Paso was unable to hold its lead in a 6-5 loss to the Salt Lake Bees. Franmil Reyes doubled in three in the first as he continues to showcase his improved plate discipline. The young Dominican outfielder is opening eyes now as he has not slowed down at the Triple-A level after blasting 25 bombs in Double-A last season. The 22-year-old is only going to get better. Kyle Lloyd was unable to maintain the early advantage as he gave up six earned runs in his 5.1 innings pitched. 11 strikeouts for the Chihuahuas was an issue, especially late in the game. Javier Guerra did hit a solo home run in the loss, and now has five on the year. He has looked way better this year in El Paso.
Javier Guerra- (1-4) HR, RBI, Run, 3 K
Travis Jankowski– (2-4) Run, K
Franmil Reyes– (1-4) 2b, 3 RBI, Run
Shane Peterson– (2-4) RBI, K
Kyle Lloyd– 5.1 IP, 11 H, 6 ER, 6 K (78 pitches- 59 strikes)

San Antonio Missions (11-9) Lost 3-1
San Antonio got a great pitching effort from Jesse Scholtens, but the offense was just unable to do anything productive. They lost 3-1 at home to the RoughRiders. Fernando Tatis continues to struggle. Yes, he did hit two homers the other day, but he really does look lost at the plate. On Thursday, he struck out three times in four at-bats and is down to .179 on the year. It is still April, but you do feel uneasy about his slow start. The polar opposite of Tatis is Josh Naylor. The left-handed hitter is on fire as he went 2-for-4 and is batting a cool .377 on the year. Austin Allen is another young player off to a hot start. He went 0-for-4, but is still hitting .338 on the year for the Missions.
River Stevens– (1-3) HR, RBI, Run, BB, K
Josh Naylor– (2-4) (.377 batting average this year)
Matt Strahm– 2 IP, 1 H, 2 K (35 pitches- 26 strikes)
Fernando Tatis– (0-4) 3 K
Jesse Scholtens– 6 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 10 K (94 pitches- 63 strikes)
Lake Elsinore Storm (9-12) OFF
The Storm were off on Thursday and are about to start a three-game set with the Stockton Ports on Friday. Head out to the Diamond for some excellent minor league action. The field is only a few miles up north off the 15 freeway.
Fort Wayne TinCaps (8-13) Win 4-1
The TinCaps were victorious 4-1 against the Great Lakes Loons on Thursday. Tom Cosgrove put in a great effort and was rewarded with the win. Jeisson Rosario went 2-for-4 as he continues to show a very advanced plate approach. He consistently gets himself in good hitting counts by laying off tough borderline strikes. Tirso Ornelas also recorded two hits for Fort Wayne. The TinCaps are off to a slow start, but should be able to heat up in the next few weeks as reinforcements arrive from Arizona.
Jeisson Rosario– (2-4) 3b, Run
Tirso Ornelas– (2-4) RBI, Run
Juan Fernandez– (1-4) 2b, Run, 2 K
Gabriel Arias– (0-3) 3 K
Tom Cosgrove– 6 IP, 5 H, 2 BB, 6 K (82 pitches- 49 strikes)
Friday’s Probables
El Paso- Walker Lockett
San Antonio- Cal Quantrill
Lake Elsinore- Pedro Avila
Fort Wayne- Osvaldo Hernandez
