The inevitable has happened as the San Diego Chargers have released return specialist Jacoby Jones. The wide receiver and return man had performed horribly in his tenure as a San Diego Charger.
With five punt returns for a total of -4 yards there really was no reason to keep Jones on the roster. The negative yards are troubling but the deciding factor was he was just not making quality decisions with his returns.
The Chargers have been decimated by injuries and with Keenan Allen now out for the year as well as Branden Oliver, the team is in need of a return man. Wide receiver Javontee Herndon is a candidate to replace Jones as return man
Jones signed a two-year, $5.5 million dollar deal in March and never paid any dividends on the signing. He was hurt in a non contact injury during practice early in the season and missed three games. That as well as his lack of performance angered Chargers fans.
