San Diego State came into this past weekend needing a sweep to stay in the running for a Mountain West Regular Season title.
The Aztecs did just that with two straight mercy rules to open the series and a 4-0 shutout to end it in the finale.
The Aztecs were hitting on all cylinders this past weekend. SDSU won the first game 8-0 ending in five with a run rule. In the second game, the Aztecs won 12-4 in the style of a walk-off run rule grand slam by Shannon Cunningham. In the third game, the Aztecs pitched another shutout with a 4-0 victory to round out the series.

Every single player contributed this past weekend, both offensively and defensively. In the first two games, the Aztecs were electric offensively. SDSU scored a combined 22 runs, giving up only four in the second game.
In the first game, Jazmin Williams started the scoring with a first inning grand slam. Jade Ignacio had two RBIs in the game to help along with the Aztec scoring. Grace Uribe started and pitched five shutout innings to help secure the run-rule victory.
It’s not everyday you enter the game as a pinch-hitter with the bases loaded and hit a walk-off grand slam… for the second time in a season. @shancunnningham just did it! In case you weren’t at the ballpark, here’s the video #GoAztecs pic.twitter.com/Jai78xA1SN

To start the second game, the Aztecs went down early 4-0 in the first. Dee Dee Hernandez started and struggled to find her spots, giving up the four runs early. Hernandez was later pulled for Cece Cellura, who finished out the game. The Aztecs responded with two runs quickly in the first.
Then, Olivia Gigante helped tie the score 4-4 after the Aztecs failed to score for two innings after the first. It looked like this game was going to go the full seven until the bottom half of the fifth. The Aztecs scored six in the inning, ending the game thanks to Cunningham’s grand slam to deep center.

UNLV was certainly stunned after two straight run rules.

The third game was slower-paced offensively. The duo of Ava Schaffel and Cellura shut out the Rebels, only allowing two hits for the game. Uribe opened the scoring with a moon shot off the scoreboard in right. SDSU scored again in the 4th, and Williams hit a two-run home run to put the Aztecs up 4-0. Cellura pitched a gem, going five innings and only allowing two base runners.
Congrats to @cellura2023 for winning Mountain West Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season! She pitched 8.2 scoreless innings over the weekend, allowing two hits and no walks. #GoAztecs pic.twitter.com/7g9zyL5EY4

SDSU had two Mountain West award winners for the week, along with a sweep. Cellura won Pitcher of the Week, while Williams won Player of the Week. Cellura went 8.2 innings this weekend, giving up zero runs and earning two wins. Williams was remarkable this past weekend for the Aztecs. Williams hit two home runs, drove in seven runs, had a BA of .625 along with an OPS of 2.125. If the Aztecs are going to make a run at the Mountain West Regular Season Title. They will need Cellura, Williams, and the rest of the team to be on their A-game.
