Aviles Hurtado’s Wonder Bicycle Kick Nominated for FIFA Puskás Award
Aviles Hurtado offered several memorable moments for Club Tijuana and Xolos’ fans but none come close to the spectacular bicycle kick the Colombian executed against Atlas in the Clausura 2017.
The 14th minute was about to strike at the Estadio Jalisco as Joe Corona delivered a corner kick that found Aviles Hurtado.
The Colombian forward did the unthinkable and in between three of Atlas’ defenders found space to conduct a potent strike from a bicycle kick that found the top left corner of the net.
Hurtado has now left Tijuana for Monterrey and is living one the best moments in his career, with five goals from nine games, being a vital piece to Monterrey’s dominance this season.
Two of those goals came in Monterrey’s 3-0 thrashing against Club Tijuana in week 3 of the Liga MX Apertura 2017. Hurtado was sent off with cheers from the fans at the Estadio Caliente despite being the villain of the night against the Xolos. Despite this new stage in his career, that goal continues to be remembered by Xolos’ fans and by the soccer world in general.
This Friday it was announced that the Colombian’s goal made it to the shortlist for the FIFA Puskás Award, honoring the best goal of the latest soccer calendar.
The 10-man shortlist includes some worthy competition like Juventus’ Mario Mandzukic and Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud. The award is completely decided by the fans and Hurtado should have a good chance if fans of massive fan bases like Arsenal and Juventus do not just vote for their players.
The 10-man shortlist will be trimmed down to three in voting that ends on Oct. 9., from Oct. 9 to Oct. 23 the winner will be selected from the final three nominees.
