Padres Down on the Farm: August 22 (Austin Allen slugs 20th homer for EL Paso/Tri-City hurls a shutout/Storm walk-off in 10)

San Diego Padres affiliates went 3-3 on Thursday.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (75-54 Lost 9-3)

The Chihuahuas lost 9-3 to the Sacramento River Cats as the offense could not get on track. El Paso managed only six hits in the game, and that was not nearly enough as Sacramento totaled 14 hits and nine runs. Emmanuel Ramirez made another Triple-A start, and the right-handed pitcher allowed four earned runs in five innings pitched. Tom Colletti gave up five runs in two innings pitched. Infielder, Matt Batten got the last three outs in the game for El Paso. Austin Allen slugged his 20th homer of the season in the loss and is now at 1.039 with his OPS in the PCL.

Amarillo Sod Poodles (67-60) Won 9-3

The Soddies won 9-3 against Tulsa in a rain-shortened game. The contest went seven innings, and Lake Bachar was given the win, He went 6 2/3 innings and allowed three earned runs on six hits. The 24-year-old has a 3.70 ERA this season in the Texas League. Blake Rogers got the last out of the game in the 7th. Amarillo collected ten hits in the game as every hitter including Bachar recorded a hit except for Buddy reed who went 0-for-4. Ivan Castillo went 2-for-4 and has a .317 average on the year which leads the Texas League. Edward Olivares went 2-for-3 and has a .822 OPS this season for the Sod Poodles.

Lake Elsinore Storm (67-60) Won 3-2

The Storm won in ten innings against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Thursday. Gabriel Arias hit a sac-fly to right field which scored Lee Solomon for the win. Aaron Leasher started the game and went five innings for the Storm. He allowed eight hits and two runs and now has a 3.15 ERA on the season. Elliot Ashbeck went two scoreless innings of relief and now has a 2.79 ERA on the season. Jordan Guerrero pitched two scoreless innings as well and newly promoted pitcher Mason Foz was awarded the win after recording the final three out of the game. The Storm only managed two hits in the game, but that was enough for the win. Eight walks by Quakes’ pitching was a big factor.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (57-70) Lost 7-2

The Dayton Dragons were too much for Fort Wayne as they lost 7-2 on Thursday. Cullen Dana went 5 2/3 innings, striking out two. He has a 5.97 ERA on the year in the Midwest League. Dwanya Williams-Sutton homered in a 2-for-4 game. It was the outfielder’s 6th home run of the season. He has a .757 OPS so far this season in Fort Wayne. Ethan Skender went 1-for-4 with a walk, and Jawuan Harris was 2-for-3 with a double in the loss.

Tri-City Dust Devils (30-35) Won 2-0

The Dust Devils won 2-0 in a pitcher’s duel against the Vancouver Canadians. Tri-City got a two-hit shutout as four different Dust Devil’s pitchers struck out 17 batters in the game. 10th round pick Ethan Elliott started the game and went four shutout innings, striking out seven. Felex Minjarex earned his first save for Tri-City by recording the last six outs. Minjarez struck out the side in both of his innings of work, and he now has a 2.23 ERA on the season. Logan Driscoll went 1-for-4 and scored a run in the win.

DSL Padres (30-40) Lost 7-5

The DSL Padres lost 7-5 to the DSL Orioles in an 11-inning game. The defense was a major issue in this game for the Padres as they committed four errors. The results were six of the seven runs scored were unearned runs. The 17-year-old right-handed pitcher from Venezuela, Jairo Iriate started the game, and he went five innings, striking out six. He has a 3.31 ERA so far this year in the D.R. 19-year-old Mexican right-handed pitcher Alfredo Castaneda threw three innings, only allowing one unearned run. The Mexicali native has a 4.50 ERA so far this season. Reginald Dowtson is establishing himself in the Dominican Republic. He went 2-for-5 on Thursday and now has a .756 OPS on the season. Eduard Hidalgo, who has also played well this year, went 2-for-4 in the loss.
