Padres Down on the Farm: July 26 (Gore dominates for Amarillo/Edwards with walk-off for LE/Abrams three hits in AZL)

San Diego Padres affiliates were on 3-5 on Friday.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (63-42) Lost 20-11

El Paso lost in a slugfest by the score of 20-11 over Las Vegas. The Chihuahuas’ bullpen was torched for 11 earned runs. Brad Wieck gave up five in 1 1/3 innings pitched. Starter Emmanuel Ramirez didn’t do any better, allowing nine earned runs in 4 1/3 innings pitched. Aderlin Rodriguez hot his 10th homer in 137 at-bats for El Paso. Travis Jankowski went 3-for-4 with two doubles.

Amarillo Sod Poodles (53-49) Won 2-1

The Sod Poodles won a close one 2-1 versus the Cardinals as MacKenzie Gore was dominant for Amarillo. He struck out six in 5 1/3 shutout innings. His ERA is at 4.30 now in Texas. The rest of the bullpen threw well as three men held the win for Gore. Carlos Belen and Travis Radke held the lead, and David Bednar recorded his seventh save of the year by striking out the side in the ninth. Edward Olivares went 2-for-4 and now has a .880 OPS this season.

In 11 innings, the Lake Elsinore Storm beat Inland Empire by the score of 8-7. Xavier Edwards recorded the game-winning hit as he drove in Jeisson Rosario with one out in the 11th. Caleb Boushley threw 104 pitches but did not factor in the game. Jordan Guerrero earned the win as he pitched the last 2 1/3 innings for Lake Elsinore.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (44-57) Lost 4-2

Three last runs for Bowling Green were the difference in a 4-2 victory over the TinCaps. Omar Cruz was solid for the Padres minor league affiliate, throwing 5 1/3 scoreless innings of baseball. His ERA is 3.70 now on the season. Henry Henry gave up the game in the seventh, allowing three earned runs to score. Dwanya Williams-Sutton went 3-for-4 in the loss and is hitting .346 in his last ten games.

The Dust Devils lost a 5-4 game to the Everett AquaSox. Ethan Elliott pitched for Tri-City and went three innings. He allowed three earned runs. Jordy Barley was the star of the game offensively as he went 2-for-5 with a triple. He has a .658 OPS so far in 2019.

AZL Padres 1 (19-12) Lost 10-8

The AZL Padres lost 10-8 in a battle with the AZL White Sox on Friday. CJ Abrams continues his hitting dominance, going 3-for-5 with an RBI. He has a 1.134 OPS so far in 127 at-bats. Hudson Head hit his first professional homer in the loss. The big news for the team was that Jacob Nix started the game and went 1 2/3 innings pitched, allowing an unearned run and striking out three. Dylan Hoffman blew the save for the AZL team, allowing three earned runs in 2/3 of an inning pitched.

The AZL Padres 2 team lost by the score of 14-8 to the AZL Rangers on Friday. Tom Collett and Luis Eusebio gave up ten runs in their three innings of relief work. That was the difference. 18-year-old shortstop Yeison Santana hit two homers in the loss and has a .918 OPS this season in the desert. The team stole six bases in the game and were thrown out twice in a wild game on the basepaths for the Padres team.

DSL Padres (20-27) Won 8-7

The DSL Padres beat the DSL Reds 8-7 on Friday. Four first-inning runs aided the Padres in the win. Staff ace Jesus Lugo is now 5-0 with a 2.44 ERA. He allowed four earned runs in the game but has pitched well all season long. The 21-year-old could be in the desert soon. Three Padres players recorded multiple hits, led by Axcel Peralta who went 2-for-3 with two doubles.
