Padres Down on the Farm: July 15 (Cantillo impressive for TinCaps/Abrams’ hit-streak ends at 20/Mosser wins for Storm)

San Diego Padres affiliates went 2-5 on Monday. The Sod Poodles were off on the day.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (56-38) Lost 9-2

Emmanuel Ramirez made his debut at the Triple-A level on his birthday and allowed four earned runs in five innings pitched. The 25-year-old right-handed pitcher from the Dominican Republic is a decent option to possibly get some innings for the Padres 2019. That is, if he can continue to progress. Travis Jankowski got two hits out of the leadoff spot and has a .296 average in El Paso. Luis Urias has still not returned to the lineup after suffering a shoulder injury last week.

In his second start in the Cal League, Gabe Mosser was victorious going five innings and beating the Visalia Rawhide by the score of 7-6. Mosser went five innings and allowed one earned run in the game. Javy Guerra was knocked around allowing four earned runs in one inning of relief. Jordan Guerrero recorded the save pitching a scoreless 9th, He earned his second save of the year and now has a 2.27 ERA. Xavier Edwards recorded three hits in the game, as did Eguy Rosario and Allen Cordoba. The Storm totaled 14 hits in the contest.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (40-52) Lost 6-5

A 1-1 game broke out into an offensive battle as nine runs were scored by both teams in a LumberKings 6-5 win over the TinCaps on Monday. Fort Wayne scored three in the 10th which looked to be the winning runs, but Carlos Belen allowed three in one inning of relief. In the 11th, Fort Wayne scored a run, but Adrian Martinez was saddled with the loss allowing two runs to score. Fort Wayne only managed seven hits in the game, led by Luke Becker who went 1-for-2 with a double.

Tri-City Dust Devils (14-17) Lost 6-2

Vancouver got four early runs in the first three innings of the game, and that was enough in a 6-2 victory over the Tri-City Dust Devils. Nick Thwaits made his sixth start for Tri-City and earned a loss, going four innings allowing three earned runs. The 20-year-old right-handed pitcher has a 4.08 ERA so far in 2019. Jason Pineda recorded two of the Dust Devils seven hits on the night.

AZL Padres 1 (13-9) Lost 9-5

The two AZL Padres teams battled it out in the desert on Monday, and the AZL Padres 2 team won 9-5. The biggest takeaway from the game was that the Padres 1st-round talent CJ Abrams finally made it through a professional game without recording a hit. After a 20-game hitting streak to start his career, the shortstop went 0-for-4 on Monday. He still has a 1.145 OPS on the year. The game was a sloppy one as seven errors were committed by both teams.

21-year-old Jesus Lugo was on the mound for the DSL Padres, but the bullpen could not contain the DSL Reds as they lost 5-1. Nick Rios, a left-handed pitcher from Venezuela, took the loss after giving up two earned runs in two innings pitched. 17-year-old Charlis Aquino went 2-for-4 in the loss. Fresh off his homer in yesterday’s DSL All-StarGame, Euribiel Angeles went 1-for-4 with an RBI. The DSL squad struck out 13 times in the game. Alex Ramirez led the way with three strikeouts.
