Only the El Paso Chihuahuas and the Lake Elsinore Storm played today, as the Fort Wayne Tincaps were rained out on the road and the Amarillo Sod Poodles had a scheduled day off.

Padres affiliates went 0-2 on Wednesday.

Here is a quick recap of the day’s action.

El Paso Chihuahuas Lost 6-2 (23-10 on the season)

The El Paso Chihuahuas fell behind early to the Albuquerque Isotopes and went 0-7 with runners in scoring position as they dropped Game Two of the four-game series.

After three scoreless innings from starter Fernando Rodriguez Jr., in which he had to dance through the raindrops after walking four and allowing a hit, Kyle McGrath got hit and hit hard as soon as he entered the game. McGrath was snakebit by three singles that led to two runs in the fourth inning, and a leadoff walk to start the fifth inning was quickly followed by a two-run home run by Pat Valaika. After allowing another run to score on an RBI single, McGrath was lifted for Robert Stock, who got the final out in the inning despite another walk.

Boog Powell got El Paso on the board with his third home run of the year to make the score 5-1, but Sam Hilliard‘s solo shot off of Sammy Solis gave the Isotopes another five-run lead. Those were all the runs they needed as, despite Seth Mejias-Brean clubbing a solo shot of his own in the eighth inning, the Chihuahuas couldn’t surmount the deficit and absorbed the loss.

Boog Powell: 2-2, HR, RBI, Run scored, 2 BB

Seth Mejias-Brean: 1-2, HR, RBI, Run scored, K

Michael Gettys: 1-4, 2B, K

Fernando Rodriguez Jr.: 3 IP, H, 4 BB, 3 K (67 pitches-40 strikes) No Decision

Kyle McGrath: 1.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, BB, K (42 pitches-28 strikes) Loss

Amarillo Sod Poodles (13-17 on the season)

Amarillo was off today. They will face the Corpus Christi Hooks tomorrow at Whataburger Field.

Lake Elsinore Storm Lost 6-1 (14-19 on the season)

Much like the Chihuahuas, the Lake Elsinore Storm also couldn’t get the bats warmed up against the Visalia Rawhides. The Storm only got four hits while going 1-7 with runners in scoring position and committing three errors.

Ronald Bolanos got through two scoreless innings before trouble arrived.  Jose Perez and Jose Caballero led off the inning with back-to-back singles before a wild pitch advanced both runners up a base. A single by Jancarlos Cintron got two runs across while a throwing error by Olivier Basabe ensured that everyone was safe. After Cintron got to third base on a ground out, another wild pitch got him home for the third run of the game.

Robbie Podorsky, who raised his batting average to .337 with a 2-2 game, got the Storm’s only run across home with a single after Esteury Ruiz got on base thanks to a fielding error.

Another Cintron single got a run across and knocked Basabe out of the game. However, Elliot Ashbeck allowed the inherited runners to score on a double, making the game 6-1. The score remained that way for the rest of the game as errors, and cold bats kept the Storm from winning.

In lighter news, Hansel Rodriguez made his debut for the Storm today after starting on the IL. He allowed a double to the first batter he saw but bounced back by retiring the next three batters, one via way of the K.

Robbie Podorsky: 2-2, RBI, 2 BB

Luis Campusano: 1-4, 2B

Ronald Bolanos: 3.2 IP, 8 H, 6 R, BB, 2 K, 2 Wild Pitched, E (76 pitches-52 strikes) Loss

Elliot Ashbeck: 2.1, 3 H (35 pitches-25 strikes)

Hansel Rodriguez: IP, H, K (11 pitches-9 strikes)

Fort Wayne TinCaps (13-18 on the season)

The TinCaps were supposed to face the Timber Rattlers today, but the weather had other plans. Rain forced the game to be canceled and, as it was the last game between the two, it will not be rescheduled. They will face the Beloit Snappers on the road tomorrow.

Starter’s for Thursday’s games

El Paso: Jerry Keel vs. Jeff Hoffman (Albuquerque)

Amarillo: Reggie Lawson vs. TBD (Corpus Christi)

Lake Elsinore: TBD vs TBD (Visalia)

Fort Wayne: Gabe Mosser vs. Chase Cohen (Beloit)
