Padres Down on the Farm: May 22 (Morejon pitches in Amarillo, Mosser wins in Fort Wayne)

There was rain in Lake Elsinore, and only three affiliates were in action on Wednesday resulting in a 2-1 record for the franchise.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (29-17) Lost 9-1

Reno got up early on El Paso in their contest on Wednesday and never looked back in a 9-1 victory. The Aces smashed 11 hits in the game, including four home runs. Deitrich Enns was on the mound and gave up six earned runs in five innings. Fernando Rodriguez Jr. also got knocked around giving up three earned runs in two innings of relief. Robert Stock continues to look great in Triple-A, throwing a scoreless frame. His ERA is down to 1.88 on the year. There was not much offense for El Paso as they only recorded three hits in the game. A.J. Kennedy slugged his second homer of the year in the fifth, and that was it. The Chihuahuas will look to regroup tomorrow with Kyle McGrath scheduled to start the game.

Amarillo Sod Poodles (20-24) Won 7-6

Adrian Morejon returned to the mound on Wednesday in Amarillo. He looked good in the Soddies 7-6 win over the Hooks.

In relief of Morejon, Miguel Diaz was knocked around allowing five earned runs on five hits. He struck out nine batters in his four innings of work. Despite giving up multiple runs, Diaz was credited with the win on Wednesday. His ERA jumped to 5.17 on the season. Travis Radke worked an inning of scoreless ball and David Bednar came on for his third save of the season for Amarillo. Ivan Castillo and Chris Baker homered in the win, and Owen Miller drove in two runs. Baker had this to say after the game about his first Double-A home run.

Lake Elsinore Storm (21-22) Rained Out

Fort Wayne TinCaps (20-23) Won 3-1

The TinCaps have been playing well recently. They have won five of their las six games, including three in a row after beating South Bend on Wednesday by the score of 3-1. Gabe Mosser was impressive once again for the TinCaps throwing six shutout innings. The 22-year-old tight hander needed an outing like this after coming off a bad start last time out. Mosser has decent size and could see some time in Lake Elsinore very soon. His ERA drops to 3.89 on the year. Austin Smith continues to be serviceable out of the pen in Fort Wayne as he threw an inning of relief on Wednesday. Justin Lopez was the hitting hero as he slugged his fourth homer of the year in the sixth inning. Tucupita Marcano continues to swing a hot bat as he went 2-for-4 out of the leadoff position. Jawuan Harris stole his 12th bag of the game on Wednesday. He has struggled to get on base but has shown plus base stealing abilities.
