Eight more runs crossed the plate in the second inning, capped off the inning with a three-run home run by AJ Kennedy to give El Paso a three-run lead. Amarillo allowed the Hooks to take the lead in the first inning when two walks and an error by Owen Miller led to two walks. A two-out error in the second inning allowed two more unearned runs to score off of T.J. Weir, who only pitched four innings and allowed four unearned runs while walking six batters and striking out four. Amarillo got one run off of Brandon Bielak in the sixth inning when Ivan Castillo lifted a sacrifice fly to score Brad Zunica, but the Hooks got that run right back in the seventh inning.

Dwanya Williams-Sutton followed him with an RBI double of his own while Justin Lopez cracked his third home run, a two-run shot, to right field to give Fort Wayne a 4-0 lead.
