There were a total of six men in action around the globe on Saturday.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

Australian Baseball League

Michael Gettys– (1-7) 3B, Run, 3 K’s, Sac Bunt

The outfielder is hitting .293 on the season after going 1-for-7 in a doubleheader on Saturday. He hit his fourth triple of the season and is up to a .934 OPS on the year in the ABL. He has hit seven homers in 40 games for the Bite.

Todd Van Steensel– 1 IP, 2 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 2 K

This Australian native that was signed in November has his ERA up to 4.50 on the season after a rough outing on Saturday. He has recorded 10 saves this winter. The 28-year-old could be a factor for the team eventually.

Jarryd Dale– (0-6) Run, BB, SB, 2 K

Dale is now hitting .181 on the year after a 0-for-6 day in Australia, playing both games of a doubleheader. He was at third base and has played all over the infield. He has put up a .473 OPS this year and has only two extra-base hits in 94 at-bats. The Padres clearly expect better from this Australian native.

Mexican winter league

Esteban Quiroz– (1-4) RBI

Batting third and playing second base, Quiroz has turned out to be an impressive offensive player in Mexico. The small infieler has plenty of power and continues to have a strong showing this winter. He is hitting .407 in the Mexican winter league playoffs for the Caneros de los Mochis.

Dominican winter league

Fernando Tatis Jr.– (0-4) 2 K’s

Tatis went 0-for-4 on Saturday with two K’s. He put up a .866 OPS during the regular winter league season and looks poised to be a real menace to N.L. pitchers for a long time. The Tatis show should begin at some point in 2019 for the Padres.

Venezuelan winter league

Luis Torrens– (0-4)

Batting last for the Navegantes del Magallanes, Torrens was again catching in the playoffs. He put up a .742 OPS in 26 games this winter in Venezuela and continues to be a decent prospect for the Padres who are deep in the catching department.

Puerto Rican winter league

  1. Our guys had a rough night last nite. Did any of their clubs win? Was this the first round of playoffs for all of them.
It’s amazing how one bad outing can destroy an era of a bullpen guy. How legit do you the think Steensel is?
Thanks as always for keeping us informed about our future Padres!
